These are mostly Christian refugees we are talking about,

And?  What does religion have to do with it?  They aren’t citizens of the United States.  If they are Christian, then they should respect the laws of this nation.

much like Joseph and Mary fleeing to Egypt to escape the infanticide of King Herod.

As already mentioned, they were Hebrew and Jesus became a very devout Jew.  On top of that, they didn’t traipse through the Sahara to get to Morocco.  They sought refuge in the very next nation.  There was also probably not an issue with the numbers of people flocking across the border.  They didn’t get free handouts or public aid from the Egyptian government.  And you had to pretty much abide by their laws as their ICE would probably put you to death for any infraction or lawlessness.  They didn’t have to worry about extremists driving a chariot through crowds in Alexandria.

As I recall, they weren’t stopped at the Egyptian border, and separated, with baby Jesus snatched from Mary’s arms.

They didn’t need to worry.  There was no crisis.  There was no Egyptian Soros trying to stir up mass migrations to splinter Egypt.  I don’t think history records where in Egypt they went to?  If it was to an outlying settlement, then what trouble would they get into?  As long as the region paid its tribute, there was no problem.  And if there was a problem, they would send an army to fix it.  That could have gotten bloody.

Baby Jesus was once a refugee, also, which demonstrates the conservative rights true spirit and stupidity.

Talk about stupidity or just a stupid statement.  Jesus didn’t teach to be lawless.  I think that carries more weight than being a refugee.  Being a refugee does not give anyone the right to violate a nation.

These pretenders of faith have no idea how close to permanent desolation, they are.

This has nothing to do with faith.  It is about abiding by a nation’s laws and to ensure the Borders, Language, and Culture of that nation (so that the nation does not end up in desolation).  That may not mean anything to you, but it is vital for the existence of a nation.  Uncontrolled mass migrations threaten its survivability.  Illegals have the right to petition to be a refugee but that does not give them the right to enter before being cleared.  And as it is now, the term ‘refugee’ as been so diluted that it really carries no meaning.  There are millions of people that seek to immigrate to this nation legally.  Is it so difficult to expect that of everyone that comes here?

I seriously get tired of seeing people like you, and half a dozen others on these forums trying to paint anyone who voted for Trump as someone who hates people of color, and equating making America great again means ethnic cleansing.

I can agree with that.   It is tiresome to assume that people who are not conservatives want to have open borders and to let anybody and everybody in.

Making arguments as simple as name calling removes the burden of actually thinking about the issues and discussing how we can make them better.  That requires a lot of thought, work, and compromise.

I remember when people could say "Merry Christmas" without possibly offending someone. I have had a few Muslim friends and if one had said "Happy Ramadan" it would not offend me at all. People need to understand if cultures collide, they need to be respectful of other cultures and not demand that theirs is dominant. So if I hear "Happy Hanukkah", or whatever I will respond respectfully.

Now that would make America great.  My view is that it is not all about being the same, it is about having respect and tolerance.  Live and let live.

Those who try to imagine that the plight of the traveler and the refugee is not looked upon with great sympathy by Heaven, are making a grave mistake.

If any nation, claiming to be built upon Christian ethics wants to commit suicide, just mistreat the fellow Christian traveler or the Christian refugee, and see what happens to you. It will be worse than hurricanes Florence, Michael, the Paradise Fire, and the Anchorage earthquake by a thousand fold, or were those not enough?

How easy do you imagine it might be to destroy a nation that is already trillions of dollars in debt? How many more multiple calamities does it require to take a hint?

Once the reinsurers are bankrupt, the banks will follow. Nations rise and fall with every season, but for the United States, it will be said that fate collided with a presumed fiction.

Tell the generals in the Pentagram that the sword, pulled from the earth in a dream, was given a name by its Maker ....

Colours who cares now that aside, If Trump and others really had their way, FEDERAL LAW: any and all gated communities, and any bleeding heart`s BACK YARDS would have to be chucked full of tents, all doors to bathrooms at those fancy places open so everyone could share, same with the silverware, fine china, bank accounts yachts race car water toys on and on and on.  FEDERAL LAW, only for Sanctuary cities, gated communities and ELITE BLEEDING HEART'S PROPERTIES WHEN LOCATED !

And?  I think that is a very good idea.  But I think he only tweeted that like thinking out loud as a wakeup call to the citizens of those sanctuary cities.  He’ll let the ramifications play out in those cities.

On this we disagree.   When the President talks about himself, he is proud to state that he is a counter-puncher.   "If someone hurts you, you hurt them back more."  That is one of his life philosophies and his advice to other people  He is a pretty straight forward guy.

It is admirable to stand up to a bully but sometimes it is difficult not to become a bully yourself after you have beaten up the old bully.

How the President behaves will shape his legacy and set a standard for future presidents. I guess we will see if he is great or not.

I can imagine he will behave this way during his second term too.  I can also speculate a Republican will follow him but not have the charisma to keep his base.  Then in 10 or 14 years, a liberal or a progressive or whatever you call them  takes over and builds on the presidential legacy.

When that future president cuts off disaster funding to all red states because they didn't believe in climate change and some of them voted for Republicans, will that be considered the accepted norm, and a way to make America great?  Will the progressives of ten or fifteen years from now smell blood and cheer because they think it is payback?

Not a future I would choose, and certainly not a way to make America great.

I have to say this, Tat... this idea of putting the migrants into sanctuary cities sounds like a cute trick  but IMO, this is a tactic that would be like something the Dems would do. Sneaky.   just MO

She thinks she's the only one? Mexico just reported yesterday another group of about 350 crashed through their southern border. People are maybe not so clueless about how many people are amassing on the southern border and still coming. Who cares about LA? I thought California was a sanctuary state to be honest. All these people will have to go somewhere.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment (Romans 13:1–7).

The traveler and refugee are two different things.  A traveler is an individual not looking for anything exceptional from their wanderings.  On top of that, in this case ‘refugee’ has been weaponized to attack a nation, therefore *the plight* is really not a plight but a salvo.  Plus *the traveler* sounds a bit Islamic as in Hijrah.  If so, then that too is an assault on the sovereignty of a nation.  In either case, to offer sympathy would be a great mistake.  All plights of refugees are not the same.

If any nation, claiming to be built upon Christian ethics wants to commit suicide, just mistreat the fellow Christian traveler or the Christian refugee, and see what happens to you.

To submit to uncontrolled mass migration is how a nation commits suicide.  To show a lack of compassion for its own people is committing suicide.  The inability for populations to assimilate is what (in part) causes collapse.  From the Soviet Union all the way back to the Roman Empire.  Borders, Language, and Culture are vital for the survivability of a nation.

It will be worse than hurricanes Florence, Michael, the Paradise Fire, and the Anchorage earthquake by a thousand fold, or were those not enough?

Uncontrolled mass migration brings poverty, crime, and disease.  Those are a thousand-fold worse than non-human natural disasters.

How easy do you imagine it might be to destroy a nation that is already trillions of dollars in debt? How many more multiple calamities does it require to take a hint?

With what Obama did to us doubling the debt, I’m really surprised we are still here.  We don’t have long.  It just depends on if Trump is able to complete the reforms he started??

Once the reinsurers are bankrupt, the banks will follow. Nations rise and fall with every season, but for the United States, it will be said that fate collided with a presumed fiction.

That fiction is Socialism.  Indeed, nations rise and fall but we have the benefit of history to change course.  We don’t have to succumb to the trip falls that have brought down previous nations.  We are a nation of laws and should abide by them.

Hmmmm......

Apart from the dribblings of Cher, has anyone else noticed how muted the response has been to this ? Where are all the outraged stars of stage and screen ? Where are the outraged Democrats ? Where are the thundering denunciations from the New York Times and the Washington Post ?

NYT and WaPo HAVE written stories criticising the President for this proposal, but it's all rather.. well... low key and pro-forma ?

I'm sure they'll find a way to complain about getting what they want...

I'm a little confused here. Aren't Sanctuary Cities intended to be safe havens for undocumented immigrants? Why are people calling this punishment and complaining?

One of my Democratic liberal friends thought this was a great idea.  He was telling me "Hey, did you hear about them bussing immigrants to our city?"  I said "Yeah, that's Trumps idea"  He squints at me and says where did you hear that?"  So I googled it for him and he just kind of reads a bit and goes "Hmm" and walks away.   By his usual logic there is no way this can be a good idea or a good thing to happen.

The big deal is that those were earmarked for Red states.

I personally think this is a great idea.  It puts illegals in the places that think it's a good idea that we allow them in and so now if it turns into a big disaster and makes life a hell for legal residents then those people can change their mind and vote to send them home and if it turns out to be a positive move then the crime rate statistics and living standards will bear it out.

The ultimate Troll, Trump, gave them a tough one to spin. They don't need any more in their cities. The whole idea has been to infuse purple states with illegals and turn them blue.
