It seems the British were jumpy because of an attack on them earlier. Bottom line: we, the British, shouldn't have been lording it about in India in the first place.

A similar incident happened in Tibet. Then one in the Philippines with American troops, and then there was several massacres of pacifist Christian Indian communities in the U.S.

"Jumpy" is just a excuse....

I wasn't using 'jumpy' as an excuse. If they weren't in India in the first place there wouldn't have been an attack to make them jumpy.

I know you weren't but many soldiers use that as a excuse. There is a lot of places the British and Americans shouldn't have been. There was also a massacre in China by British troops. Americans and Mexicans just massacred Chinese immigrants.

Projecting contemporary morality into the past is nothing more than moralistic historical revisionism. Times and morals change. Besides, that one incident pales in comparison to those of the Sepoy Revolt of 1857. The revenge the British took then was ghastly and sadistic.
