Tatetopa Posted April 15, 2019 #53 Share Posted April 15, 2019 2 hours ago, Myles said: Not me. Not for anyone. Removing a name from a ballot because of something that is not illegal is a horrible precedent. If Trump runs against Biden for the presidency, would you be OK with Ohio removing Bidens name is he does not provide is full home movie collection? If Trump does of course. Nobody will have a name removed for something that is not illegal. So today this does not apply. If a law is passed that tax returns must be filed with the election committee, then that becomes a law. If Ohio deems it necessary to view candidates home movies then they can try to pass that law as well. If there are enough non-stupid voters which I still believe there are, or laws get challenged as unconstitutional then the courts will decide. Is this an infectious disease that has been caused buy the MSM? Every crackpot idea get publicized and people run up the OMG tree before it fades away?

What is to stop Trump from rounding up all blacks gays asians and hispanics and putting them in internment camps? Same thing: courts, voters, and people that would rebel to various degree. The United States system of government has outlasted 44 Presidents, World Wars, and a number of crises. It is a pretty well thought out system. . 1

Not likely is it really? If you lie on you taxes, that is another separate crime. In the case of some senators it might reveal where funds for their boat or vacation home came from, but not too likely either. I think it is a reaction. People are throwing down tax returns to say . "See, I am honest." Does it prove anything? Most modern presidential candidates have done the same. But then we have never had a billionaire president before have we? Obama, Bush, and Clinton for example were not multimillionaires at the start of their administrations. I can see where if President Trump's taxes have different numbers than he has told his banks, investors, and insurance companies; he could have another problem that has noting to do with his being President. It might cost him failed deals or hundreds of million dollars in losses. Not saying I feel sorry for him, but that is a personal and not a Presidential issue. People seem very sensitive about the tax issue though. It is about Trump, you bet, I am not blind. That doesn't mean it will even put into law or stand up in court. +OverSword Posted April 16, 2019 #58 Share Posted April 16, 2019 So last night the local PBS channel was listing a few of the laws up for a vote in my state and another was to require all bars and restaurants showing sporting events on the TV to have the subtitles on for the hearing impaired. I thought, now wait a second here. When have you ever been watching a game in a bar and been able to hear the TV?

I need a law to change the channel to something good. skliss Posted April 16, 2019 #63 Share Posted April 16, 2019 I gotta say....this just makes the Dems look petty and childish. "taking my ball and going home" ridiculousness. So next step, no Republicans on any ballot, or publish the names of your neighbors who voted Republican, how about fines or jail time for those voters...they shouldn't be allowed to vote unless they vote the way we want them to.

At this point it is more like, if you don;t play by our rules, you can't play ball with us. In the long run, public opinion and ethics will determine who can stand for election. Can a tax evader or a child molester or a spousal abuser still be a good Congressperson or President. Maybe so. That is what people will decide. If you are going to run up the OMG tree, how about going higher and saying next women will not be allowed to vote or hold office, or that only white men over 50 with a net worth exceeding $500,000 can vote. It gets crazy with the what if speculations. DId the MSM infect us all with a dependence on daily crisis to supply our adrenaline? I prefer coffee. +OverSword Posted April 16, 2019 #67 Share Posted April 16, 2019 This is just a great example of my local state government wasting time and resources. If this passes the supreme court will rule it unconstitutional for states to require a presidential candidate be left off of a ballot for this reason. Now if it were a requirement that presidential hopefuls disclose their tax returns that would be a different story.

Exactly my point, it is up for the American citizen to decide, and if we can't we call in the courts as referee. If a law is passed by the people of Washington State that says you must submit your tax returns to be a legitimate candidate, then anyone who does not do that is not a legitimate candidate under the law. In that case, the law gets challenged and the court decides if it will be upheld or is thrown out. That is the great thing about our government and a justice system based on a rule of law. It does not depend on intelligent voters or the honesty of candidates to survive. If the voters desire something or the legislature passes a law that conflicts with the Constitution of the United States, the courts get to decide. The situation gets sorted, regardless of MSM or speculation or panic.

What they may be wanting is politicians with no conflicts of interest. On the surface this does not seem like a bad thing. They could write a grandfather clause to it and say that any suspected corrupt politicians currently in office can remain in office and run for reelection until their term of office expires. Would that make it better for you? You seem to think it is the bratty kids because you don't like them. The bratty kids do not pass their own private laws Separate the factions you like and dislike and think about the method of passing laws through the legislature and of invalidating laws through the courts that our Constitution provides., This would be a law of the state of Washington, not a faction. All of Washington. Not bratty kids. As Oversword says above it is likely a waste of time because it will be thrown out by the courts. As far as I can tell then, the system is working as it should. We could step back a bit and watch a system that has worked for over 200 years continue to function properly.
