Ah, I see we have an alien visitor among us.

Of course. They won't leave @BuddingPsychic1111 alone. I can hear the probes gearing up.

but as we've gotten better weapons we've also evolved and learned how to live much more peacefully than in the past. Look at the list of genocides, wars, and colonization including mass slavery and now is much more preferable and peaceful than anytime in the past.

This is true but we have in no way inoculated our basic nature.  We WILL use those bombs someday.  It may be down to a miscalculation or even an accident but they WILL be used and the population of the planet will be in for the most massive culling ever.  Those who doubt that, IMO, are whistling past the graveyard.  The most troubling sign of the past decade is the Russian upgrade of their nukes into lower yield tactical devices.  The city busters, ironically, were far better for maintaining a stable relationship amongst the nuclear powers.  No one had any doubt what would happen if they were used.  The "smaller" bombs are being made with the attitude that a limited first use in a tactical situation might cause an enemy to balk at destroying themselves and the rest of the planet.  Kind of like getting sucker punched and deciding not to fight anymore.

Or a pandemic or a meteor. We have yes the potential for mass extinction of humans but we always have. We could get wiped out by a number of things but mass killings are not new. Entire villages, towns and cities were wiped out in so many conflicts in the past, or conquerors, that to say they are new or even worse is forgetting the majority of history.

War and murder have always been with us but I would be surprised if school violence was as prevalent in the past.
