Space Commander Travis Posted April 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Does that mean that no one will have to be in them? 2 2 Top
Chaldon Posted April 23, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2019 (edited) People think that it's a big problem that if an incident happens there will be legally no one to be sued for negligent driving. But I don't see a problem here: it's just like if a worker puts his finger into a machine and gets an injury: the production company can be sued for this but if they put enough of fail-safe devices into their machine for the normal non-extreme-case functioning, put the warning labels, made a good user's guide that's quite enough for them to win the case. The same is with the self-driving cars. The real problem is that with the self-driving cars there will be much less way for the injured people to get moral satisfaction from seeing the driver suffering prosecution, as there will be no one else to blame except for yourself for jumping onto the street in front of a speeding car. As of children - unfortunately it's a dangerous world anyway! That will be quite enough if the cars will be as careful as human drivers. Besides that it is all only the urge for revenge, nothing else. Edited April 23, 2019 by Chaldon 1 Top
jmccr8 Posted April 23, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Well, they are a little late out of the gate as they have had them in Japan for over a year already. Rolltide Posted April 23, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2019 I work less than a mile from the factory, actually use to work there back in the day when it was NUMMI (joint venture between Toyota and GM). We produced a car off the line every minute back then. Any way, with thousands of Tesla's in this region along with nearly 24/7 traffic, this will be interesting to see once implemented.. Calibeliever Posted April 23, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2019 "It remains unclear how the cars will deal with problems such as cyclists swerving in front of them, road works with manual traffic signals or children unexpectedly running out on to the road." To be fair, most humans don't do all that well with these things either. 2 1 Top
Trelane Posted April 23, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Tesla should be realistic on some of its projected dates. They have vast and virtually empty factory in Buffalo, NY they can't seem to get off the ground to start full scale production of its solar tiles and other components. I applaud the innovative thinking but some timelines are just not realistic. 1 Top

marsman Posted April 24, 2019 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2019 i enjoy driving....being in control... 2020 is next year.....i dont see any rush or desire for people to go driver-less..this idea is a silly one..... a bit like trying to sell phone-less cords or bra-less straps
Space Commander Travis Posted April 24, 2019 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Certainly a Tesla electric car with no one in it would be by far the safest. At least hopefully no one would be killed when they burst into flames. 2 Top
alexbodman2 Posted April 24, 2019 #12 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Does that same as self-driving cars?
aztek Posted April 24, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 24, 2019 they may get it done technically, but legally it will be decades before laws adjust. cars may be able to drive themselves, but you will still be as responsible as any other driver, if any driver who gets pulled over says the car drove itself, that means they were not in control, that is an easy reckless driving ticket, or more. EnderOTD Posted April 25, 2019 #14 Share Posted April 25, 2019 Nope, hopefully their plans don’t go up in smoke Me thinks the Chinese government is working hard to put them under.
