Shooter In Colorado High School

Nothing about this yet in US news though I found it elsewhere. This article also refers to the 16 yr old as a he. I'm thinking that's how the suspect will be handled now. This along with the fact that the hero was an avid hunter doesn't fit well I guess. I can see why those kids were so upset and left to have their own memorial. Their hurt is real and people need to think before they open their mouths.

Wow. The more I think about it, the more I understand why those kids walked out on what they felt was just a political rally. They knew everyone involved and those speakers at the vigil obviously did not. That was no place or time to be talking like that.

Just adding: This suspect will be addressed as he as this is how he identifies.

The weapons were also stolen out of a locked gun cabinet. They belonged to Erickson's parents.

These kids are smarter than the adults around them.

During a vigil Wednesday night to honor Kendrick Castillo, who died charging at Erickson when he allegedly opened fire in his ninth-period British literature class on Tuesday, students at the high school stormed out in protest of politicians using the event as a platform for gun control.

Students began yelling they “wanted to be heard” and then chanted “Mental health” while cursing at the media.

The Daily Mail reported a friend of Erickson and McKinney commented on a social media post that said the duo were troubled and didn’t get the help they needed.

“Devon did not do what he did because he’s a liberal, or to make a statement,” the friend wrote.

“He did it due to internal struggles. They’re both struggling with mental health issues and this is a time for awareness.”

It seems a parent had called the school with some strange accusations a couple of months before the shooting. A student also called Erickson a bully. Erickson was supposed to appear in court on Friday but that was postponed until Wednesday.

A concerned parent warned STEM School Highlands Ranch administrators about violence and bullying months before the shooting

The district official's letter, seen by Reuters, said the parent told Douglas County School Board of Education Director Wendy Vogel by telephone that "many students are suicidal and violent in school. Several students have reported sexual assault and nothing is being done."

Referencing an alleged bomb threat and "an extremely high drug culture at STEM," the parent said the environment at the school was "the perfect storm," according to the letter.

"The individual called it 'the perfect storm' — 'group think' and students ... are susceptible to 'copy-catting,'" the letter said, according to NBC News. "The individual expressed concerns about a repeat of Columbine or Arapahoe."

On January 17, the school filed a lawsuit in Douglas County District Court seeking to establish the identity of the anonymous parent, who it said defamed the school and Eucker.
