What difference could they possibly make?  He will still be President.  Anything in them would have happened before he was elected, so it wouldn't be impeachable.  Any discrepancies or questionable items would be between him and the IRS, not Congress.  The whole value of his tax returns is as political porn for the Dems in Congress.

Uncle Sam just said it. Congress can't just get something like that because they asked. Their had to be a reason. They'll have to do something illegal and shady to obtain them and TBH I'm surprised someone didn't do it in 2016. On the flip side, I'm thinking someone definitely got their hands on his returns but there was no there there so no point in leaking them.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Obama is thee first president in US history to never have a single GDP above 3% in 8 years.   He doubled all the debt accrued by all previous presidents, combined, with zero to show for it (unions were happy though).  He was the first president in US history to ever see the US credit rating drop from AAA to AA.   Yeah, he was a financial genius.  Please don't dump that BS on me it is complete garbage, the up turn started when Trump won the election and took off when he started reversing Obama's destructive fiscal policies and regulations.  He was, by every single measure, the worst president in history, bar none.  Economics, foreign policy and societal peace was worst ever and anyone stupid enough to suggest he jump started the economy after 8 years of destruction is either lying to me or themselves or delusional

How much has Trump raised the debt since he took office?  How does that compare with Obama?

He could still be prosecuted once he left office.  New York will probably do that.  And Trump's kids are not protected by the DOJ policy memo.  They could be prosecuted.  Or a deal made not to prosecute them in return for Trump's resignation.

What Congress is looking for is where the money came from.  That, presumably, could point to criminal behavior.  But we won't know that unless the returns are released.  I suspect Congress could force the issue by subpoenaing an accounting firm and threatening them with Contempt of Congress if they don't hand it over.  I don't know what the legal repercussions of that would be.

This whole issue will likely be moot anyway, as it would take until the next election, maybe even longer for it to play out in the courts.  And that seems to be Trump's tactic:  delay, deny and run out the clock.

That was an inside joke.  Merc and I have a long history of disagreement over climate change.

And you need to learn why man-caused global warming is different from natural climatic variation.

Trump and congress have raised the debt but they have also increased GDP every year at a rate of 3% or greater, have achieved the lowest unemployment since 1967 and have been quickly rebuilding a heavily damaged military, although that will take billions more and years to achieve.   You want to compare Trump and Obama have at it doug, bring it on, start with jobs lost then look atcredit rating and stagnant GDP.  We went throuygh the numbers earlier but I can repeat it for you doug if you are to lazy to look.

Dumbledore the Awesome

I wonder how the people who keep trying to come up, with increasing desperation, with new excuses to rid themselves of the Tyrant never seem to feel embarrassed at how silly and petulant they make themselves look. Look, for goodness sake, it's about a year and a half, right, until the next election. Now despite being a Literal Nazi  , the Dictator seems to have made no attempt to outlaw opposition parties or scrap elections and make himself Dictator for Life. So rather than floundering with ever-increasing desperation for some excuse to overthrow him, why not trust to that thing you claim to be all about called Democracy, and let the people decide for themselves? Do you never realize that you're the ones being undemocratic by continually looking for ways to overthrow him through various tedious legalistic loopholes? If it was any other country, I expect you'd probably  call it an attempted coup.

It's frequently been called an attempted coup, in this country.  The Democrats seem to be totally un-self-aware, and uncritical of their party mates.  They seem to lack the capacity for embarrassment, backing each other over the most ignorant and outrageous claims.  Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.  This is a game to them and they will strive for points until the final buzzer.  They see the year and a half until the next election as 18 months of potential scoring possibilities.  There has already been speculation about Trump refusing to step down if he loses, amid echoes of how he stole the last election.  They are warming up their arguments for either outcome.

Trump's kids are not connected in any way with his personal tax returns.  The adults are their own persons and file tax returns accordingly.  Barron is a minor and a dependent on his father's return.  Nowhere in our legal system can children be prosecuted for the sins of the father, or vice-versa.

Let's quit trying to weasel out.  How much has the debt gone up since Trump took office?  How much did it go up under Obama?  Numbers - not opinions.

Judging by the results of the mid-term, the will of the people may be a little different than you think.  Pelosi thinks the Dems should lay off the impeachment rhetoric until after the next election when, presumably, tRUMP will be voted out of office and the Dems pick up a few Senatorial seats.

Sounds like Sanders and Warren are slipping a little.

Really, who do I hate?  I never hated Obama, I thought he was a complete incompetent and his record proves that was a good assumption.  I never attacked him personally or wished for his kids to be imprisoned as you have. When I attacked Obama is was about his policies and the actions he took, I see none of that from you, it is all personal and full of vitriolic hatred.

That really sounds like the way the Mafia do business, or the Secret Police in the USSR in Stalin's time.

...  or the modern democrats in the uS.  Can you imagine saying threatening things like this about Obama's kids or Clinton's?  They threatened kidnapping of Barron and rape for the daughters.  Sick stuff these modern leftists, they wish physical, or in doug's case legal,  harm to women and children because we don't agree with their twisted, failed ideology yet we are supposed to react pleasantly and take it.

Are you saying people didn't do this with Obama and Clinton?

This still happens on a daily basis where I live.

it's not right at all and I never stoop to such lows but to act like your side is innocent and that this crap doesn't happen from both sides is nonsense.

There are always a few crazies but unless your have your head up your ass you'd have seen that this is far more prevalent on your side of the political spectrum and far more vicious.  Physical violence against the other side as well and attacking children like the Covington kids who were totally misrepresented by the MSM  and attacked viciously by left wing zealots including countless death threats to them and their families.   Now there are massive lawsuits pending against several news networks and those networks will lose.

There are some of us who look on in horror at what the tRUMP administration is doing.  His current budget guts the National Park Service.

He has already sold drilling permits so close to Old Faithful Lodge that the drill pad would be in the parking lot.  The purchaser has not started drilling yet, saying that he bought it so that nobody else could drill it.  This, reportedly, has infuriated tRUMP.  What difference does it make to him?  The govt already has the permit money and if the purchaser decides not to drill, that's no skin off his nose.  So what difference?  it would be a huge slap-in-the-face to the environmental community - that is the whole reason he wants to destroy Old Faithful.  That's not government; that's just plain viciousness.

Admittedly, I'm reading between the lines, but I can think of nothing else that makes sense.  Can you?

tRUMP threatened to have environmental data records deleted from govt websites.  Fortunately, he did that during the campaign so that most of the sets were sufficiently backed up at universities and abroad by the time he took office.  By the time he became President and actually issued the order, a little foot-dragging by the executives was all that was needed to get the job finished (Apparently, tRUMP didn't realize that he couldn't just make grandiose proclamations - orders have to go through channels down the chain-of-command.).  Anyway, we beat the loser.  Big Badlands National Monument was a leader in efforts to get National Parks data to safety.  It out-right defied the deletion order - Big Badasslands National Monument.  Instead of firing the people who disobeyed (the proper response to insubordination), tRUMP gutted the National Monument's budget, venting his anger against the entire staff.  Nice to know he's such a compassionate person.

He has put a lot of offshore drilling leases up for sale.  He did this in California, in particular, apparently hoping to bully Democrats.  The state responded with a stiff set of environmental regulations.  Drillers who make a mess will have to clean it up, tRUMP or no tRUMP.  That put a big chill on offshore leases.  tRUMP has now set the stage for revenge regulation.  Once he's out of office, the Dems are likely to respond with draconian regulations designed to punish anybody who ignored the environmental laws that were in effect when tRUMP took office.  That is going to be the case at Bears Ears and Grand Staircase.

The tRUMP Administration can't end soon enough.

That's what happened with Nixon.  Leading Republicans went to him and informed him that there were enough votes to dismiss him and he should resign before that happened.  The resignation was extorted under threat of dismissal:  Jump before you're pushed.

Nobody is threatening tRUMP's kids' lives.  This tactic will work only if prosecutors have the evidence to convict them.  As such, it is merely a plea bargain.  If tRUMP didn't resign, prosecution would proceed.  The kids could still be found not guilty, in which case, tRUMP wins, but if found guilty, they face serious prison time.  Might be good for the country to see how the justice system actually works.

But once again, the court process is so drawn out that the next election will likely come and go before this can be realized.

Such things are done routinely behind the scenes.  And some are done out in the open.  And there's worse - much worse.
