£31m in Bitcoin stolen by hackers (US $41m)

"Hackers have made off with £31m in bitcoin from the Binance cryptocurrency exchange in a meticulously timed heist, the business has said.

"Japan-based Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, had its hot wallet emptied rather than its main vault of bitcoin.

"The hot wallet, which was used for customer transactions, contained 2% of the company's total holdings."

"Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, has been hit with a “large scale” data breach in which 7,000 bitcoins worth around $40.7 million were stolen.

"The company announced that the breach was detected on May 7 at 12:15 p.m. EDT. In addition to stealing bitcoins, the hackers made off with a large number of user API keys, 2FA codes, and “potentially other info.”"
