Still Waters Posted May 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2019 A sand sculpture depicting Theresa May beheading herself with a guillotine has been branded "gruesome" and "sick". Dutch artist Johannes Hogebrink said his Brexit-inspired piece in Weston-super-Mare shows the prime minister as she "attempts to cut Britain off from Europe". However, the sculpture has angered some people who have described it as "a sick insult" and "violent rhetoric". North Somerset Council said it "welcomed" the "thought-provoking" art. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-48269000 Quote Politicians get brush-off at Weston Sand Sculpture Festival https://www.itv.com/news/2019-05-13/in-pictures-politicians-get-brush-off-at-sand-sculpture-festival/

Sir Smoke aLot Posted May 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2019 That's one way to look at it, sick... Weird? Distasteful if you ask me but we have to love our embraced freedom of expression. Reminds me of images of prophet, or Sarkozy son marriage and most recent Netanyahu guide dog caricature Funny thing, the latter two were forbidden and banned by law with authors being sacked

freetoroam Posted May 14, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2019 Quote North Somerset Council said it "welcomed" the "thought-provoking" art Great, they welcome beheading. The 'artist' is Dutch, he should keep his beheading sculptures in Holland. Wonder what the children who see this think? Do they see the prime minister or do they see a sculture of a beheading? This is bad taste to be shown in public, we do not want medieval barbaric customs portrayed in public, no matter who it is supposed to be. The guy is an idiot and so are the welcoming council. Duke Wellington Posted May 16, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2019 In the UK those who shout the loudest are often the ones who get represented. It has resulted in a culture emerging where everybody has to creep around the hyper-sensitives on eggshells so as not to upset them. It isn't a healthy national environment for people to grow up in because it leaves a lot of citizens with no emotional resilience at all. As such we now find attempts to erode away free speech and freedom of expression because they cannot cope.
