Eldorado Posted June 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2019 "Tech giants, civil society groups and Ivy League security experts have condemned a proposal from Britain’s eavesdropping agency as a “serious threat” to digital security and fundamental human rights. "In an open letter to GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters), 47 signatories including Apple, Google and WhatsApp have jointly urged the U.K. cybersecurity agency to abandon its plans for a so-called “ghost protocol.”" -- "In practice, the proposal suggests a technique which would require encrypted messaging services — such as WhatsApp — to direct a message to a third recipient, at the same time as sending it to its intended user." "In an article for Lawfare, GCHQ’s Technical Director Ian Levy and Head of Cryptanalysis Crispin Robinson presented six principles to guide ethical and transparent eavesdropping, while also suggesting intelligence officers can be ‘cc’d’ into group chats without compromising security or violating the privacy rights of the individuals involved."
