Who will the Democratic nominee be?

Man you are probably my favorite person to discuss politics with so please dont take offense but the post above is insane.

First Trump has lived in the public eye the entirety of my life. He was a known shady huckster as well as a renowned liar and misogynist long before he was ever a political creature for the media to be biased against.

Second I have the ability to recognize societal norms. Lying all the time isnt normal, and again we can back decades to repeated verified lies from the man. People who brag about their sexual exploits the way he does are abnormal. People who stiff their contractors are abnormal. People who feel the need to make up petty nicknames for those they disagree with are abnormal.

Third is just one word: Twitter . See while his supporters love him "bypassing the media" so do the rest of us. The dude cant spell, that is abnormal for a POTUS. The dude engages in dangerous anti constitutional "jokes" and encourages his supporters to do the same, that is abnormal for a POTUS. The dude engages with and then rebroadcasts the messages from a particular news network, that is abnormal. The dude hurls insults on official white house correspondence, that is abnormal.

Finally I have a basic grasp on the structure and function of our government. He hasnt filled an insane amount of positions and many of those he has filled have been done with temporary hires and both of those situations are abnormal. He publicly encourages his employees to violate federal laws and regulations that is abnormal.

Man I dont need the media to tell me what to think of his behavior. My moral compass doesnt shift with the electoral tides.

So if he didn't twitter all the time, he'd be less of a liar? If he was private like Mr Clinton, he'd be less of a sex perv? If he was less of a braggart.

Petty names like "basket of deplorables"? Names don't come only from one side. It is just you don't like the names he's calling. If you did, you'd not mind. How many names has Joy Behar called Trump? How many names has Rep Waters called hims? Just a few examples... It is not one sided.

Do you follow professional politicians? They are all professional liars. It is what they do.... They do whatever they think they have to, to get ahead.

I do agree on the positions being filled. He really should have done that years ago. ;)

No problems. I'm mostly having fun. Some chuckles. Some seriousness. Can't let it get to you. People who do let it get to them, and I see these people all over Youtube, and on the few Media sites that still allow comments... These people... should really think about playing Minecraft, or Pokemon Go, or something, rather then having the top of their head come off after some troll posts something on the internet.

Im not saying its one sided. Im saying he has embodied and magnified just about every disgusting behavior you would expect from a politician.

You do realize that she was referring to racists, sexists and xenophobes as deplorable right?  50% might have been a little high then. Its probably a little low now if im honest.

Joy Behar? IMO this is a huge part of the problem. Youre trying to hold the most powerful man in the world to the same standard as a talk show host. Shouldnt we expect more from the President of The United States?

I'm really sorry you think so lowly of me that you believe I would ever like the POTUS acting like a spoiled junior high kid, regardless of target.

I don't know whether it was played on US media, but the other day I saw a young Trump talking eerily similar to his trade and tariffs stance against China, maybe 25 years or more ago, but it wasn't China, but Japan he was talking about, in virtually identical terms.

That is one thing he has been remarkably consistent about. Wrong, IMO, but consistent.

Sure. Let's hold him to a higher standard, but then let's hold his successor to this same standard, yes?

In this age of internet media, the Next President will have to be scrupulously clean and crazy efficient with social media. I don't think Biden, Sanders, or Warren will be up to that really. Not without a bunch of people covering up for them.

Again though, Trump is what we have, and I like a bunch of what he's done. What is the alternative really? Junta? Drive him from office for being an azz? An ineffective Impeachment?

We held his predecessor to a higher standard why wouldnt we his successor?

Honestly before I realized how evil McConnell really is that is exactly what I thought the republicans would do. "OK the threat of Hillary is gone, lets get rid of this nutjob and get on with governing" is how I imagined the thought process would go.

IDK whether a President Pence would be better or worse to be honest. Aside from the racism Trump is only evil in an "im a spoiled brat who has always gotten my way" kind of manner while Pence has the look, and religiosity,  of a right competent evil mother ****er.

I imagine theyll have teams working the socials for them. Hell I would hope they have teams working the socials for them. Frankly its kind of scary that policy can be dictated and wars can be started via tweet.

I don't think that is true. I think he was just a classier man, and more reserved.

HA! HA! HA!  uhhhhhh.... ha....

A LOT of people think that Pence would be an even better President... You know... Put prayer back in Schools, and the Pledge of Allegiance with "Under God" enforced, and Executive Orders banning Abortion Clinics and such...

Yeah, but as "old" people, will they pick the right people? Will they even understand what these people will be for? I'm 50 and I didn't have a computer till I was 27, or 28, I think. Imagine that people who are 70+ were probably over 50 when they got their first computer... They tend to think physically, not digitally. And that can affect hiring staff, just as it can affect other activities.

Did Hillary pick the right people? Just remember what she did and said about her server...

Trump probably uses Twitter the way he does because he actually really probably doesn't understand how it is being used by most people. He's using it with zero finesse, like a bullhorn.

I totally am. The last couple of years' its mostly been with falsehoods, "Nuh uh's" and insults. Facts however have increasingly become few and far between.

Its almost like you guys are all following, and believing, a man who lies constantly while encouraging others to do the same.

Weird.

Isn't it funny when the biggest pusher of the collusion hoax tells us all how wrong we are about everything and how brilliant and clear sighted he himself is.:rolleyes:

I haven't laugh as hard as I have at the Democrat's Debate. It was a clown show through and through. Poor Andrew Yang got silenced though, his mic was cut and he couldn't respond to jabs. Democrats are at it again, cheating their way to get their favorite candidate in the race instead of the people's choice.

Politicians lie, yes.  We know that.  There is a difference in the way Trump lies.  I know that sounds weird.  But, blatant lies that serve no political purpose make no sense.  Compulsive lying is a real disorder, and when someone lies about almost everything, even things that don't matter, you have to wonder if it is something deeper.  Some examples:

Quote

My father was born in Germany

The noise from windmills cause cancer

Standing at a news conference in front of Soldiers and telling them they are getting a 10% raise

Same press conference, saying Soldiers are getting their first pay raise in 10 years

There are hundreds of other examples, literally.

Should they have to, though? Surely Tweeter is a vehicle for personal opinions, and should certainly not be used as a vehicle for announcing policies or ad hoc attacks on rivals or other countries' leaders. I think it should be purely for personal matters, not for affairs of state at all. Have an official Twitter account for matters of official business, but keep it separate from the Leader's opinions on anything and everything.

I think Trump has ruined it as far as the President is concerned. There will likely be not Private, and Public, distinction any more. No opinion versus official order. Posting an opinion that The President hates donuts will be seen as a government attack on pastries.

Just a general observation from Oz... politicians and political parties are only relevant if they can bring something new and relevant t the table. Trump has done so with his "draining the swamp" and "wonderful trade deal" but what exactly are the democrats bringing? It would seem more of the same. Any democrat that stands a chance of beating Trump OR making a real difference will have to drag America into the modern world by fixing health care. Free basic health should be a right like it is in every first world country and private insurance a luxury. Not the other way around. It doesn't have to be health care it could be jobs or workers rights but it has to be something that benefits your country and not just the CV of a career politician.

We have some of the best health care in the world and socialized medicine victims come here to get well, we don't go there so no thanks, we will tweak what we have, not overhaul it.

Yes, the whole point is that you do have some of the best health care in the world ... for those who can afford it. Is that really impossibly difficult for people to understand?

My grandma has been broke forever and she's had more critical surgeries and hospital visits for serious injuries than I can count. She's well into her 80's, still kicking and hasn't lost her house. Her story isn't unusual. Poor people here aren't neglected. We have safety nets. We keep telling you that. What's so hard to understand?

She's on Medicare.  It's the form of socialized medicine that the Democrats want to expand on.

You do realize that when asked the question "What would happen if all patients were on medicare?" the universal response is "We would be forced to close down immediately."   Socialism has a zero percent success rate.
