A shooting at a graduation party in Southwest Philadelphia left one person dead and five others injured. Police say about 60 people were attending the party at a park at 70th and Reed Bird Place when police say at least one person came up with a rifle and fired eight or nine rounds into the crowd, shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.

In all, six people were shot. A 24-year-old man who was shot in the back died at the hospital.

Three boys ranging in age from 15 to 17 and a 16-year-old girl were all shot in the legs and were listed in stable condition. A 21-year-old man was shot in his elbow and was also stable.

And from the same article.... "..The park shooting contributed to an extremely bloody weekend in Philadelphia, with nearly 30 people shot before sunrise Monday."

“It appears as if three males were seen near that parking lot area, around the time of the shooting,” Ross said. “One of whom started shooting into the crowd, indiscriminately and subsequently struck obviously six people, one of whom died. It’s just another case of wanton and senseless violence that we can’t get our brains around.”

So these guys likely weren't even invited to the party, they were on a shooting spree.

Commissioner Ross said at the scene Sunday night that there was no indication of any conflict before the shooting.

“That is deeply disturbing to us, that someone would resort to that, irrespective of what it was about, that you would pull out a gun and fire at people like that without any regard for life whatsoever,” he said.

Commissioner Ross may want to speak with his colleagues in Chicago.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It was another disturbing weekend of violence in the City of Brotherly Love, another weekend filled with gun violence. More than a dozen people have been shot since late Friday night, the gunfire erupting in nearly every pocket of Philadelphia, even on I-76.

Philadelphia Police have been very busy this weekend. There have been at least 16 shootings within city limits so far, but no one has been arrested.

It's been a terrible bloody weekend in Philadelphia. I know one that died was a woman in her thirties who worked at a deli. Her name was April Coleman.

It's been getting really bad. Last night's reports were 8 shot and 1 deceased but I saw the news at 11 PM and the shooting happened just around 10 PM. Thankfully, it sounds like that was lowered. This link was last weekend. It was really bad too.

This describes this weekend.

You should see the comments in the local ABC, CBS News sites. People are screaming about them reporting all kinds of stuff that causes division while Philly seems to be doing it's best to catch up to Chicago. Parts of that city are getting really bad. Every day there are reports of shootings, people killing their kids, kids missing. People are yelling for the Mayor and the Police Chief to get out there and do something or resign. They were going to open a safe zone for people to shoot up heroin. Go into Facebook and look up Channel 6 Philadelphia. The comments are worth it.

Here's another one that must have happened overnight.

Doesn't have anything to do with white college kids. News stations report this with a straight face while their own city disintegrates.

It's happening in cities all over the country. Most of it only makes local news so we never hear about it. I live about 50 miles north of Philly and we have the shootings and child killings too. Just not on such a large scale because our population isn't as concentrated and we're smaller cities and even small towns. Everyone is hearing about this only because the numbers this weekend are unusually high. This is every day! I'm sure St Louis, New Orleans, Detroit....are just as bad on a daily basis.

I looked it up out of curiosity, sure you had to be correct, @susieice and surprised that New Orleans "only" had 147 murders last year and is presently 46% less so far than last year at this time for 2019  Been dropping for a while according to this article: https://wgno.com/2019/01/02/new-orleans-homicide-rate-down-for-third-year-in-a-row/

I live away from NOLA enough we don't hear the news from there as local often. I was surprised things seem less violent for a change there. It was one of the more violent cities not that long ago.

Good to hear NOLA has calmed down. I know a while ago, it was ranked pretty high. Philly used to be ranked fairly low but here lately, it's getting terrible! Here's the latest report.

The gathering was organized by the neighborhood to celebrate graduations and Father's Day. No motive is known as there were no arguments or incidences at the party. The people (allegedly reported by party goers as 3 men) who did the shooting just drove in. Because the park was on a dead end street, police think the shooters must have known a party was taking place.

Here's a list of city ranking for violent crime that was done in February of 2019. Some will surprise you because you don't hear about local crime on national news.

Wow. Any major city will rank somewhere high but, I did not expect St Louis to be number 1, somehow.

I know. Some I expected. Others I didn't. I did know that Detroit had an awful reputation. It's ranked #2. But cities like Milwaukee, Little Rock and Cleveland really surprised me. They are all in the top 10. Even Hartford, Lansing, Anchorage and Albuquerque made the list.

Quoted you again because college kids are frequently going missing. They aren't all white. This one was reported yesterday although he hasn't been seen since Wednesday.

Police are saying they are going to start enforcing a summer curfew to try and curb the violence.

Here's an update. The police just held a press conference so we'll hear about that in about a half hour when the news comes on. Good video in this link.

Yep. The news just explained why the number of people shot at this party went lower. Apparently, 9 people were shot within 10 minutes and all the reports were coming in at once. Only 6 occurred at the party.

A little late to edit previous post. Here you go. There were 22 incidents, 32 victims, 6 deaths. Police Chief Ross has been on the news broadcasts all day. I told you, people have been in their websites raising hell.

Nine more shot this weekend but Sunday night is just starting.  I sure hope there's no more. There were at least 5 shot during the week that I know of. It's bad!
