Some are ranking it as a 6.4. It hit about 10:33 AM California time, 1:33 PM East Coast time. About an hour ago. This link contains a live broadcast. A lot of aftershocks are being reported.

I live about 70 miles from the Searles Valley (11 miles from Ridgecrest a fairly large town). It shook here at our house pretty good but no damage. It's reported as a 6.4 quake.

Northridge was a 6.6 and there was a lot of damage there then in '94. Some folks in Ridgecrest are no doubt dealing with much the same unfortunately. Let's hope no one got hurt.

Our local news site reported a few minutes ago that some damage reports are starting to trickle in. Hopefully there isn't a lot of damage. Good to hear you are alright Will Due. Stay safe as a lot of aftershocks are being expected.

We felt it.  We're about 60-70 miles from center.  It was a gentle roller, back and forth, not a rocker, up n down and it seemed deep, not superficial.  Very gentle here, the chandelier was swingin and it felt akin to mom or dad holding you and swaying with you in their arms.

CNN is doing live updates on it's site. Multiple minor injuries have been reported and Ridgecrest is under a state of emergency. Pictures of some of the damage are in the link.

scary like Egdar Cayce predictions there are a lot of people believe  Cayce`s  predictions. I remember my dad had a  friend that had a reading by him and I met her.

The big problem now could be the after shocks, hopefully they will not be to big or last for too many days. One heck of a Fourth of July for all those poor people.

Seismologists  are saying they may not have seen the largest one of this series yet. They are warning that there will be more and some could be bigger than the one that hit today.

A 5.4 earthquake hit the same area early this morning. Over 200 aftershocks, many 3 or over, have hit the area since yesterday's quake.

A 6.9 hit!! The 6.4 was a foreshock.  This is certainly getting interesting.

Felt 3 small ones. Then boom! Crazy crazy! All the neighbors out of their houses. My nerves are shot. Hope all is well in Ridgecrest. But they're reporting this one was 7.1. Three times as powerful as Northridge!

I've lived in SoCal all my life. Experienced them all but never when an aftershock was more powerful than the initial quake. Pretty scary. The house was making a lot of noise this time. Unlike the first one.

How long ago did it hit Will? There was just a 5.4 earlier this morning. Glad you're alright.

That link just said the quake has been put back up to 7.1 and it would not be surprising if at least one 6.0 will hit. Maybe several.

Another aftershock right now.

Saying a 5.7 just occurred. Now they said it may have been in the 3's. The people on this broadcast are understandably shaken up. The seismologist is expecting some aftershocks to reach 6 and a bigger one could follow. It's possible for a 6.4 to be a fore shock to a larger one but magnitude means nothing as to whether a large quake can be a fore shock. I sure hope everyone is alright.
