Will Due Posted July 4, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2019 I live about 70 miles from the Searles Valley (11 miles from Ridgecrest a fairly large town). It shook here at our house pretty good but no damage. It's reported as a 6.4 quake. Northridge was a 6.6 and there was a lot of damage there then in '94. It was a gentle roller, back and forth, not a rocker, up n down and it seemed deep, not superficial. +susieice Posted July 6, 2019 Author #24 Share Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) Saying a 5.7 just occurred. Now they said it may have been in the 3's. The people on this broadcast are understandably shaken up. The seismologist is expecting some aftershocks to reach 6 and a bigger one could follow. It's possible for a 6.4 to be a fore shock to a larger one but magnitude means nothing as to whether a large quake can be a fore shock. I sure hope everyone is alright.
