Good thinking UK MOD! Lets not let any one of the Evil Non Westerners know how to effectively hijack a British oil tanker.. We have to think about our national security dont you know.

Iranian tanker will be released if oil isn't going to Syria, says Hunt

Also, good thing we hijacked that Iranian tanker before they - desperately tried - to hijack one of ours (they even announced there would be consequences dont you remember).. Despite of Iranian statements to the contrary, it was obviously bound for Syria, aiding the warridden locals that murderous Evil Al Assad against the peace loving freedomfighters weve been helping - like Al Nusra and the likes - in our honorable efforts to save the Syrians form their evil dictator! Good thing weve sanctioned their ass to put pressure on the local population that Devil Assad!

Also, good thing were employing an even more suffocating sanction policy on Iran(ians) to save them from their Evil Dictators! These sanctions are needed because they are the source of global terrorism, and are building a nuclear bomb to wipe Holy Israel off the map! They have shrewdly never started any war in the past centuries to be able to secretly continue their murderous terrorist tactics to gain control over the whole world, Iranian Global Hegemony is just around the corner! They have even slowly but streadily surrounded our military bases, with their country! Good thing our unwaverable local good samaritan allies Saudi Arabia and Israel - islands of ethics & morals in an otherwise barbarous and backward, EVIL ME region - stand with us against this 'source of global terrorism', 'nuclear existential threat to the world', 'warmongering zealous extremists'.

Yay! ^_^

Yes, and to think that the US could determine it was time to invade Iran because of the downed US drone, that was nothing more than a setup over Iranian territorial waters for purposes of going to war. Yup. Wunnerful'.  No need for the UN to determine of Iran was guilty or not, it's all on the US.

True of course, except that part where he refused to strike this time.  I'd say that if any shooting begins in earnest it will be because of an Iranian leadership that wants its nukes more than peace.

Yes, off the 'meds' again.. Seems to me too many are on meds these days, maybe thats part of the reason the world is turning up side down.. Maybe the level of opioid use in the US is one of the reasons for the level of crazy going on there.

Rumors are going around that over the weekend while Iran failed to detain a UK tanker they have detained a UAE tanker.

The tanker in question is the MT Riah, UAE isnt saying anything about the tanker, US intelligence is starting to believe it was confiscated by the IRGC, different gulf state sources are mixed on it being detained or breaking down and being towed into an Iranian port for repairs.

All that is known is that there has been no contact with the crew and the tanker was last located at Qesham island which has a large IRGC naval base if I remember correctly.

I can only speak for myself.  My "crazy" is totally organic, no drugs needed.

I think you might be onto something with that thought actually.  I don't disagree in the slightest.

Iran has admitted to seizing an oil tanker on Sunday that they claim was illegally smuggling oil.  No one seems to know if it was the MT Riah which Iran claims they helped after receiving a distress call or if it's a different tanker but given the details of where Iran said they seized the tanker, the day they seized it, and the amount of oil they said it was carrying there is a good chance it was the MT Riah

UK has said they are investigating the claims which seems to suggest the UK is connected to the MT Riah in some way while America has said they will take all measures to secure passage through the Persian gulf.

The whole situation is surprisingly complicated, no one is even sure who the MT Riah belongs to or who is crowing it as it has bounced around ownership of at least 2 UAE based companies before being sold to some firm that no one seems able to contact.

It's a riddle wrapped in a mystery wrapped in tin foil and sold as a chocolate bar.

Possibly a kit-kat !

Imagine the outrage when Iran seizes one and it turns out to have a SEAL platoon embarked.  :gun:

I'm assuming, in this latest fantasy, you also killed all the real crew so you could pin it on Iran?

Seems pictures have confirmed that it was the MT Riah that Iran has seized.

Only problem now is figuring out who the MT Riah belongs to and what it was doing.  The MT Riah is a small tanker, only able to carry slightly over 6,000 barrels of oil, hasnt entered a port in over a year, had 27 days of dark activity, has met with 55 other vessels while at sea, and no nation is claiming the ship as theirs and everyone contacted about the ship either says they sold it awhile ago or they say nothing at all.  More then likely the MT Riah seems like it has been involved in illegal activities but everything about the situation keeps making less and less sense.

Also earlier today the USS Boxer, a wasp class amphibious assault ship carrying 2,000 marines entered the Persian gulf

Iran has just announced they have captured a UK oil tanker in the Persian gulf.  The oil tanker is the Stena Impero and was destined for a port in Saudi Arabia, after a few odd maneuvers the oil tanker made an immediate change of course and started to head for an IRGC naval base

Reports are saying multiple small attack craft and a helicopter were involved in the capture of the Stena Impero.  The oil tanker has a crew of 23 and there has been no contact with them since the ship was captured.

Ultimately this is quickly turning into an extremely bad situation.

No, it isn't. Obviously it's not good but we shouldn't get carried away. Iran told us they would do this and the government is clearly willing to accept the risk.

If Iran follows their normal pattern, the crew will be absolutely fine and the tanker will be released when we release theirs. Which there is already an avenue for doing so.

Apparently people who monitor shipping traffic have noticed not too long ago, about 14 minutes now, a second UK owned tanker, the Mesdar, heading for Saudi Arabia has slowed down to 3 knots before turning sharply north and heading for Iran.

There is no evidence anything has happened but this is near the exact same pattern for what happened to the Stena Impero.

Just to reemphasize the point, there is no evidence yet other then weird ship movement that anything has happened to the Mesdar yet.

Do you have a source for this?

Liberian flagged. Odd choice if it is Iran.

Liberian flagged but owned by a UK company, most ships sail under a different flag then its owner for various tax reasons.

Hearing reports now that it has been confirmed the Mesdar has been captured but nothing on official channels yet though.

We'll be powerless to do anything in response. Politicians should hang their heads in shame. The shame of it.
