Still Waters Posted July 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2019 A suggestion for a mass search for the Loch Ness Monster later this year has gone viral on social media, and caused concern for the RNLI. On Facebook, about 18,000 people say they are going to a Storm Loch Ness event with 38,000 "interested". It has been inspired by Storm Area 51, an idea tens of thousands of people could storm a US Air Force base to uncover the truth to a UFO conspiracy. But Loch Ness RNLI is warning of the dangers of the loch's deep water. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-49070362 1 1

RoofGardener Posted July 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2019 Ummm... how do you "storm" a lake ? Are we talking about thousands of people with inflatable Dinghies ? Where would they launch them from ? There ARE roads down both sides of Loch Ness, but you'd stlll have to drag your dinghy across rough terrain - and forests - to get to the lake side.

But this storming Loch Ness is kinda stupid. Actually, lemme rephrase, to me, it's really stupid. Imagine the sheer amount of litter a massive crowd brings with it, not to mention the damage of surrounding flora/fauna and the dangers of the water within the loch itself. This is obviously a huge concern for the poor "Volunteers" that will no doubt have to be there to make sure people are safe. Quote "With no US Army involved, Loch Ness looks a little less hazardous than storming Area 51, but here we have our own set of problems. "Our Atlantic 85 lifeboat has an impressive survivor-carrying capacity, but even that will be stretched by the 'attendees' of this event." The waters of Loch Ness are much scarier than I originally thought Quote They include its depth being almost two and a half times the height of the Big Ben tower, and the temperature being an average 6C. He also said that conditions could deteriorate quickly on the loch with wave heights of 4m (13ft) recorded and, because it is freshwater, it is less buoyant than the sea if someone ends up in the loch and tries to float. Wow, that's some deep water right there. And how do they expect to search Loch Ness as a mass crowd better than what Scientific Researchers have done I wonder..... 3

ScotDeerie Posted July 26, 2019 #20 Share Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Is it okay if I go and sit in the local pub and mull over the possibility of the Loch Ness Monster? Because, frankly, I've been looking for an excuse to go back and sit in a wonderful Scottish pub 24/7.
