Good arguments, assuming that a candidate has any privacy rights at all.

Middle Class ? In California ? They are a rapidly dying breed.. .or rather.. an emigrating breed.

Lots of them moving up to the Portland Metro area of Oregon, and up to Seattle. Making the urban areas even more liberal then the existing hippies did.

Here's a recent article.

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/california-trump-reelection-constitution-harmeet-dhillon

Quote

You don’t even have to take my word for it that the new law brazenly defies our Constitution. Two years ago, the California state legislature passed essentially the same bill, only to have it vetoed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown, a liberal Democrat who declined to release his own tax returns when he ran for his party's presidential nomination in 1992.

In 2017, California’s nonpartisan Office of Legislative Counsel warned state legislators that the bill “would violate the qualifications clause of the United States Constitution” if enacted. Brown agreed, writing in his veto statement, “While I recognize the political attractiveness – even the merits – of getting President Trump’s tax returns, I worry about the political perils of individual states seeking to regulate presidential elections in this manner.”

t may not be constitutional,” Brown continued. “Second, it sets a ‘slippery slope’ precedent. Today we require tax returns, but what would be next? Five years of health records? A certified birth certificate? High school report cards? And will these requirements vary depending on which political party is in power?"

Slippery slope, Pandora’s box, can of worms … whatever analogy one invokes, the law commits constitutional carnage.

It's funny we see the opposite in AZ. Upper middle class conservatives fleeing "high taxes" who get here and are then appalled at the state of our infrastructure

Read an article that the far left Governor of Oregon, Kate Btown, wants to enact the same thing here. Taxes or not on the ballot.

Ok so if you remove the current political context from the situation can you see the legitimacy behind the thought process?

I see the thought behind the process. It could help reduce possible corruption and such.

But, then I think voter ID cards are sweet also.
