Mysterious marble bust unearthed in backyard

There’s a mystery in Brownfield, a rural town in western Maine.

Digging with a backhoe behind an old house, an unidentified resident hit upon something strange about a foot under the surface: a marble bust that had obviously been there for quite awhile.

With a clean break at the neck, the bust is clearly of an older man with thinning hair. By any standards, it’s well-done, looking more like something they’d dig up in a ruined Roman villa than a rural Maine backyard.

Nobody knows who it is, but the Brownfield Historical Society is on the case.

Looks like John Glenn.

Very good likeness.

It Also looks a lot like Richard Nixon, probably cut his head off.

It's really quite well done!  Makes you wonder if there is some type of damage/flaw in it somewhere as mentioned in the article, which could be why it's just been randomly left and ended up being discovered in this particular area.  I'm kinda leaning towards it being from a full size statue though, where the head's been knocked off somewhere in history. Who knows how it'd end up where it's been found though. Gosh, there are so many possibilities.  How extraordinary!

Doesn't look that old.

Yes I kinda agree, however, since it is made out of Marble that may play apart in it not looking so old.

That might back up it being Nixon, the the artist is working away when the news comes through, "He did what!" the chisel moves to the neck.
