Because it was a real place than used as a metaphor later.

Babylon was an idea.  It later grew into Rome.

Well yeah that's if you equate Jeremiah story of a messiah coming when Babylon is around. The Babylon you have spoke of has no Messiah. So you have a huge problem.

The only thing I know about is Jesus said he will return when the Fig leaves sprout again.  My guess is another Temple. And it won't be in my life since a mosque is on that location.

Jesus also said no man will know the date and time of his return. That’s a fairly definitive statement.
