Especially with China planning to build two airports on Greenland. When all is considered it may not be the joke some people are making it out to be. RoofGardener Posted August 16, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Hmm... intriguing... apparently Truman offered to buy Greenland (for $100 million) back in 1946. (the offer was rebuffed). Despite sharing the same first four letters in his name with Trump, he was a Democrat, so it was all OK Edited August 16, 2019 by RoofGardener 2

Not necessarily. In American Samoa, they travel on US passports, but inside it states that the holder is not a US citizen. The locals dont seem to mind though 4

RoofGardener Posted August 16, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2019 Why would the USA want to buy Greenland ? They've already got their huge airbase in the north of Greenland - Thule Airbase. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule_Air_Base

Strategically it's a great location to watch Russia, and China. Plus it's also a great place to put Nuclear Missile Silos, because it would shorten the launch to impact time frame. Then there are also natural reasorces such as large deposits of Uranium, and other metals. I suspect this is what's going through his mind. I think Denmark should wait until it hears the price being offered. If Denmark goes for a short-term gain it could make $2 trillion by selling Greenland. If it waits it might discover when all the ice has melted that it has precious resources and enough farming land to support a population of 500 million. In which case a selling price of $2 trillion would have been a mistake. I suspect the Americans know something about precious resource deposits.
RoofGardener Posted August 16, 2019 #17 Share Posted August 16, 2019 It's worth pointing out that this story - like the recent story of Trump planning to censor the internet - is only sourced by anonymous people. It could easily be made up by these "sources", with the connivance of the newspapers wanting a good story, and for ideological reasons wanting to harm the President, or paint him in a bad light.

Its not terribly important what he thinks as he isnt the PM anymore. The PM's name is Mette Frederiksen. Anyway we cant sell Greenland, unless they decide they want to. This isnt the colonial era. Getting the approval of the 56,000 people living there would cost $56 billion to make them all millionaires. Then the fee for the land to the Danish Government. Its doable. But then the USA will need to melt or remove the ice to fully develop Greenland. Maybe thats a plan for the next 3 centuries? And may I suggest if it happens the new territory gets renamed to Trumpland. Wouldnt that be something?
