Zoo visitors scratch names into rhino's back

Recommended Posts

Still Waters

Two zoo visitors have sparked outrage for scratching their names on to a rhino in France.

The 35-year-old animal was pictured with the words Camille and Julien etched on to its hide

Pierre Caille, director of La Palmyre zoo, which is around 500km south of Paris, told Sky News how Noelle the rhino had the names inscribed on a layer of mud and dead skin on her back.

He added she did not experience any pain and was being looked after, but called the action "stupid and disrespectful".

Maybe its time to change that now this has happened.

If an animal had bitten their hand off, the animal would be put down. The distance would protect the animals against the idiot humans.

What zoo would be stupid enough to let people get that close to a rhino?

Violence is not the amswer.

Keeping humans away from rhinos is.

While these horned beasts are potentially very dangerous, they generally prefer to keep to themselves. Despite that attitude, rhinoceros are no pacifists, and when they feel threatened, they'll steer their large, dangerous bodies directly toward a fight.

I can not see why the zoo allows people to get so close to them. Rhinos like their space and allowing people to touch them is stupid.

It only takes one person to scare the rhino and the rhino will do what is their natural instinct, protect itself. Unfortunately this will lead to humans putting it down and the stupid human who got too close will get off scott free.

Protecting the animals and keeping untrained  humans away from them is the answer.

We can not confuse violence with survival instincts, unfortunately humans have.

Violence is never the answer.

Agree to disagree. Some people just need a good ass kicking. Hell the world would probably be a better place if everyone had to take one or two throughout their lives.

Other than that I fully agree with your post. Its insanely neglectful and honestly abusive that a rhino is kept in such conditions.

I certainly agree some people need a good kicking, ;) but it is best to prevent that situation by keeping the untrained humans away from potentially dangerous animals.

Education would not go amiss here.

Some people are that stupid, but the zoo is at fault here.

They said most people respect the animals, and yet the zoo is not respecting the rhinos 'space' by allowing people to willy nilly touch them.

To protect the animals from humans, the humans have to be kept away from them.

Parents want their children to stroke the rhino now turn it round the other way, what if the rhino wants to stroke their child!? :(
