Habitat Posted September 1, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2019 I don't know why this occurred to me today, to wonder about, but it also occurs to me to wonder why we seemingly don't care that much about such concepts today, and few would probably have a ready answer to the question. I don't !

+Not A Rockstar Posted September 1, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2019 IDK if we could come to a consensus on a person, and then, how do you know their inner realities? When she was alive, Mother Teresa was regarded by many as doing great good, for example, but, she had her haters as well who saw her as cold blooded towards the dying at times. We might even have a hard time deciding what constitutes "great". In fact, I am sure of it lol. So, I vote for @joc 1 1
Habitat Posted September 1, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted September 1, 2019 I think it says something about the "death" of idealism, that concepts such as this barely register, these days. People probably have concepts of the most famous, the most popular, the sexiest, etc, but the greatest, we probably don't even have a firm idea of what true human greatness would consist of. ExpandMyMind Posted September 1, 2019 #11 Share Posted September 1, 2019 I'd go with either the Dalai Lama or Noam Chomsky (who also happens to be the most quoted living author). Though in reality it's probably some random person who daily goes out their way to do many little things for people every day. Either that or a nurse.

It was the Greeks who brought Buddhism to East Asia yet he tells Westerners they should "keep their own traditions". Buddhism is for everyone. Not just Easterners, and if it would of survived in Alexandria, Byzantium, and Athens and wasn't wiped out by the Christians and Muslims in the West there probably would of been less of a "Dark Ages". 1
