Dejarma Posted September 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) quoted from the article: Quote "It's clear that pilots and air traffic services personnel are witnessing many near misses in UK airspace," said former Ministry of Defense UFO investigator Nick Pope. This suggests something weird & wonderful. The UK Airprox Board are looking at risk assessing normal problems like drones etc... Nick fkin Pope gets involved & all the believers immediately think ufo which, let's face it, really means aliens/ gov conspiracy theories & whatever- ya know, the usual crap! Another quote: Quote Not all pilots however are comfortable with reporting such incidents to their superiors. How the FK does anyone know this as fact if they are reluctant!? This means they must have told someone for it to be known that they are reluctant! Who has come forward & how? Whoever these people are, they want anonymity it seems-- therefore whoever is told in private can only tell us <a story> which of course could be BS without a name attached to it zzzzzzzzzzzzz!! This article will be classed as complete BS by rational thinking individuals-- IN_MY_OPINION Edited September 14, 2019 by Dejarma 1 1
mdbuilder Posted September 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2019 I wonder if the UFO pilots are complaining about all the air liner traffic?
skookum Posted September 17, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Near misses with supposed drones are almost a daily headline occurrence in the UK press. But when you read the article it doesn't makes sense. Many sightings are made above 10,000 ft with the aircraft doing 250 knots plus. The press portrays them as little drones you can by for a a few hundred off ebay or Amazon. I doubt these could ever reach these altitudes so if they are indeed seeing drones they must be expensive professional ones. The drone fiasco at Gatwick doesn't add up either. I was on the perimeter of Gatwick near enough the whole time and saw nothing along with everyone else who I know was there. I am not saying they are little green men involved but there is more to this going on.

It would be no prob for tech heads to modify a cheap drone to go 10.000ft altitude. 11.000ft altitude with a DJI Phantom 2 (starts at 200$ on Ebay, used): link EDIT: Ok, 11k is doubted but anyway Edited September 17, 2019 by toast

The other day was an article on a near miss at 13,000ft. Plus you would need to be a rather eagle eyed pilot to spot something so small whilst travelling the speed of an airliner. There is however an obsession in the UK press about drone use.

The drone would have to reach its required height before the target aircraft arrived; assuming a drone could climb vertically at 30 mph it would need about four minutes to reach 11,000 ft. An aircraft on the final leg of its journey and slowing for landing might be travelling at four miles a minute? In four minutes the aircraft would cover 16 miles, it may not be visible to the drone operator when they need to launch the drone. Positioning a drone accurately, within near miss distance to an aircraft, would require some appreciation of various factors that a casual operator, out for the day with a few mates might not be aware of. For example, how to work out where the aircraft will be in advance and local wind speeds Ect. It goes without saying that the drone operator must be happy breaking the high flying rules and aircraft/airport proximity law. So It is entirely possible to use a drone to worry aircraft but it would need planning, knowledge of wind speeds at various altitudes, aircraft flight path and most likely some practice flights. Probably not something for a drone flier to attempt on the spur of the moment.

Its very easy to manage the conditions as mentioned above but I will not explain how to proceed because I will not deliver a how-to to the bad boys, on a public board.

The picture description says ufo, so it must be... why would it be anything else!?
