Eldorado Posted September 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2019 "An explosion Monday caused a fire at the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology, a biological research facility in Siberia known for being one of the two centers in the world housing samples of live smallpox virus. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta is the only other place known to maintain live samples of the deadly pathogen. "According to the head administrator of Koltsovo city, where the research center, commonly called the Vector Institute, is located, the explosion occurred during scheduled maintenance work." Seti42 Posted September 17, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2019 The authorities said no damage was done to the area(s) housing deadly pathogens. And we should TOTALLY trust them. TOTALLY.

I have just watched HBO's Chernobyl, though. I can't help but wonder if the reports are drastically downplaying the explosion/fire and damages to the building's structure.

Probably because the cost of funerals is cheaper than a lifetime of rehabilitation from radiation.
Gromdor Posted September 18, 2019 #13 Share Posted September 18, 2019 It would be alarming if it were a terrorist attack in an attempt to steal bio-weapons. But I can believe construction explosion.
