Wreck of record speed boat found in Loch Ness

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

The boat used in a tragic attempt to beat the world water speed record has been found on the bottom of Loch Ness.

State-of-the-art sonar technology helped pinpoint the wreckage of the jet-propelled Crusader that crashed in September 1952.

The body of it’s pilot, John Cobb, 52, was found floating on the surface after the horrific 200mph crash - it was feared the boat, that disintegrated on impact, would never be discovered.

But earlier this year researchers for a National Geographic documentary sent an unmanned vehicle called ‘Munin’ with a revolutionary multibeam sonar into the loch.

And after a painstaking search it found and filmed the wreck 200m under the water.
