10,000-year-old giant glyptodon shell found

Recommended Posts

Still Waters

When a group of Argentinian fishermen settled on the banks of the Alegre creek on Monday, the last creature they expected to be among their haul was a 10,000-year-old glyptodon.

But wedged into the sands of Barrio La Flecha in Ezeiza, Greater Buenos Aires, was hidden a shell of the extinct armadillo-like animal which roamed South America during the pre-Ice Age.

Imanol Ojeda stumbled upon the curious hard object and, after scraping off the dirt with his knife, discovered it was a shell.

Kittens Are Jerks

Nice find. Shame they're still not around as they're really quite adorable.

"...This is the second time the remnants of a glyptodon – a species of glyptodont – have been found in the area after farmer Jose Antonio Nievas saw what he believed to be a dinosaur egg in the mud in 2015."

It does look like what I'd imagine a dinosaur egg to look like, too. :D

Wow, the diversity of mother nature over time, though. Incredible.

Armor two  inches thick. Small wonder it lasted. Very nice find.
