It's just a mania they have, that drives them to want a nailed-down world view, one where humans are the big fish in the pond, that might explain the widely varied things the Dr No types don't like being regarded as real, like UFO's for example. No God, no UFOs, just humans at the top of the heap.

I feel sorry for these people,I suppose it saved money on presents from Santa.

It does conflict with their image of themselves as hard-nosed science types, that they continually dismiss that which really ought be left in their "can't say" basket.

I don't think most scientists limit themselves like that.

I'd call it a limited mind.

There is something important at stake, for there to be so many, so consistently banging the same drum. They will tell you it is as a public service, I will tell you it is a service to themselves, to try and be rid of doubts. The best plan would be to just accept that having doubts is not a demerit, in fact it is an indispensable part of being a good thinker. But the doubts must be of a kind that involves fear.

But it's not the soul.

Yes it is

You're romanticising an old superstition. Soul is the character of a person. You are the sum of your experiences, how your brain works is the only realistic soul.

Why should a non material soul exist? What reasoning leads to that conclusion?

Well he should stick to his photography, because he has no other redeeming qualities that I've seen.

His critical thinking skills are highly regarded amongst many in the forum.

Rather than let personal opinion waste space, where specifically is he wrong in this instance? That's what matters here isn't it?

I'd like to see the evidence to prove that the paranormal dosen't exist.Yeah, I don't think their is one.

I'm specifically referring to afterlife concepts. One step at a time. That's the thread topic.

How do you come to that conclusion? How are Santa and the paranormal connected?

All scientists in the best positions.

Only those calling themselves scientists who are not and fringe nobodies voice such unsupported opinions.

Physics is what it is. It's not shaped by opinion.

Isn't that doing what you accused me of though?

Being closed minded, refusing to even consider other information?

I'm happy to discuss any real information you can provide.

This is what I was talking about earlier. How can listening to both sides be closed minded just because I go with the well and better supported solution?

What catty attitude? He is voicing the well supported conclusions that physics results in. How is stating facts catty?

With all due respect, It really sounds more like a personal problem on your behalf?

During that presentation, I found his witty sense of humour delightful and his approach very down to earth. It seems your making wide assumptions based on a single statement that offends your beliefs?

Not at all. I don't question that you have had experiences that you cannot explain.

I question your firm stance that they support afterlife theories better than physics. There is undeniable evidence that directly contradicts your conclusion. Another answer seems more likely than utter nonsense.
