Jailed politician escapes on rope, motorcycle

A former Colombian congresswoman serving time in prison pulled off a dramatic escape after a visit to the dentist’s office – and it was all caught on video.

Colombian authorities said in a news conference Tuesday that Aída Merlano escaped through the third-floor window of a dentist’s office in the northern part of the country’s capital, Bogotá.

Police released surveillance video that shows the ex-politician grabbing a red rope that was hidden in the office, then throwing it out the window. Outside footage shows the red rope dangling before she drops to the street.

The video shows a group of pedestrians crowding around her before she gets up, hops on the back of a motorcycle and rides away.
