Excellent news. Those poor families dragged through this after losing their children. I can not believe how awful and callous some people have been just to get a little fame.

Wow.  At last James Fetzer gets to learn about the responsibility part of 'freedom'.  Well-deserved.  I hope on appeal they increase the penalty.

Im guessing but i believe he lost not because he just said he didnt believe it but rather his malice and the fallout his blustering caused,

The potus is always harping about how important it is not to tolerate "fake news" so then i would expect potus is happy to see this stand that supports not spewing false news and the resulting consequences if one does especially causing harm.

Looks like this particular case is focused on a pair of authors

Quote

Author James Fetzer was ordered to pay the amount to Leonard Pozner, whose 6-year-old son Noah was among the 26 victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012.

A judge earlier ruled Mr Pozner was defamed by statements in the book that claimed he fabricated copies of his son's death certificate.

Mr Fetzer called the damages amount "absurd" and said he would appeal.

Mr Palacek [co-author] settled with Mr Pozner last month, terms of which were not disclosed.

For no reason other than morbid curiosity, I would love to know what evidence Mr Fetzer had for faked birth certificates.
