BrooklynGuy Posted October 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2019 Good look from both sides on what Governments role in America should be. While I think Government on the federal, State and Local levels are certainly needed and appreciated by most including myself, I think their power and influence should be limited when possible. As an example I would prefer to decide who I get my healthcare from and what company provides my health insurance and at the same time I think public schools should be promoted and fully funded. Very complicated issue to say the least. Government: The Most Important Issue Facing 2020 Candidates The American public's broad concerns about the role of the federal government in their lives have evolved into, I believe, the most important issue in our current political environment. Debates over the role of government have defined the American Experience going back to the nation's founding -- but now more than in previous eras, these debates have become the underlying, critical focal point of the next presidential election. An excellent recent review of public opinion data on Americans' views of their government, "The Polls -- Federal Government Power" by Robert W. Oldendick of the University of South Carolina and Stephen E. Bennett of the University of Cincinnati, helps refresh our understanding. +joc Posted October 20, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2019 The most important issue is whether we continue to protect our constitution and consequently our Liberty or whether we acquiesce into a Socialist European style Globalist quasi Police State. 2 1
quiXilver Posted October 20, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2019 It's always odd to me when folks assume there are 'two sides'. To me, political discussion has never been like a coin with two sides, more like a gem, with many facets... and the gem is fluid and ever shifting as culture adapts to the conditions of life. No where in the constitution will you find the words democrat, or republican. These are two private clubs.

No where in the constitution will you find the words democrat, or republican. These are two private clubs. This is true and we were strenuously warned of the dangers of partisan loyalties. What we have created now has not much to do with those two labels though. Beginning around the era of Woodrow Wilson, the Progressive movement began installing a professional cadre of administrators to manage the business of our government. The thinking was that the political system was too unruly and unreliable to adequately fulfill the needs of the nation. From that beginning the administrative state only advanced. It never stopped growing and today we see that vast, complicated entity trying to rule over our republican traditions. We are literally in a fight with faceless and nameless power brokers who use the corporate media for propaganda to compel compliance of an under educated public. In our modern era there has never been a president that was elected by the people who had not first been vetted by this hidden government. What we are seeing is the fight between the people who still believe in our right to determine our own path and a conglomeration of power brokers that have run DC for nearly 100 years. The most important issue for 2020 is whether we are willing to stand against this shadow government. Remember, just as the citizenry has become lazy and focused on comforts, so has the rank and file of these drones that plod along in government bureaucracies become soft and unfocused. Their goal has always been the retention and growth of the power of their territory in the shadow government. This is a fight that will require courage and discomfort but it need never come to violence because despite the impression being created by the 5th column, our government cannot control or suppress a population that truly is unwilling to be forced. We can, with a small amount of coordination bring them to their knees by simply refusing to obey their diktats. That's right, a simple, peaceful wave of civil disobedience will grind everything to a halt and that idea would scare them spitless. The strength of America has always been the desire for freedom.
