A controversial inventor accused of “preying” on vulnerable farmers by promising to make it rain has insisted “there’s no way we want to con anyone”.

David Miles from Miles Research has been peddling weather modification technology for nearly two decades, previously under the name Aquiess, which the Victorian Government highly criticised in 2006.

Mr Miles is currently offering three-month rain contracts to farmers in Victoria’s grain belt for $50,000 on a “success basis”. The competition regulator has warned against doing business with him, but says it is powerless to stop him.

Yup, the threat of a Dakota Access leak made everybody sell all their cattle and switch to "no irrigation" crops, then the trade war with China killed them.

Sounds like it might be just as useful honestly.. If you can deliver rain instantly then why 1) give yourself 6 months to deliver and 2) are you not a supervillain using your powers for evil?

The farmers around here usually plant soybeans as their primary crop.  I've noticed a little more cotton this year but not much.

Scientists have been able to make it rain for a while now, it's nothing new they use cloud seeding and other various methods.

Only to an extent

Cloud seeding is believed to increase the likelihood of moisture bearing clouds precipitating over a given area, but there is no way to create moisture laden clouds in the first place.   If you have dry air aloft then it won't rain whatever you do.  And if you do make it rain, 99 times out of 100 it would probably have rained anyway (but maybe just not quite as much).
