Eldorado Posted October 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2019 "As one witness would later state in court, "it was an extreme [sic] dark night" in January 1804, and some people in Hammersmith were feeling uneasy. "For the past three months, local residents had been reporting multiple sightings of a ghost around the area. "But on this evening, the case would take a shocking turn, which would lead to a murder trial. "The implications of the accused's defence wouldn't be resolved in English law until 180 years later." +Desertrat56 Posted October 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Well, the end of that tale was a bit disturbing. Now there is a legal precedent that might be used again. What's wrong with asking questions about what is going on before intervening? Edited October 26, 2019 by Desertrat56

The problem here is that the original ghost wasn't actually a ghost, but somebody trying to scare somebody else wearing a sheet. I wonder what would have happened had the man shot the man wearing a sheet. Would he still have gotten sentenced killing a man dressed as a ghost while hunting a ghost back at the time when the reports were going on? Would have made an interesting case.
