What has become clear is there is a large number of people in this country that can no longer except democracy.

The failure of our politicians to respect a democratic decision is now showing what damage it has done.

We have created a mob of radical socialist that will never except Brexit or this Government that has been elected by a complete landslide.

I fear this is far from over. Gina Miller is already plotting to attack trade negotiations.

The same attitude prevails over here.  I've heard a couple of Congress people already saying that IF Trump wins next year it will be due to cheating and he will be illegitimate.  IMO, this the end result of weakening education standards across the board.  Our young people are not being taught our history - warts and all - and we have an electorate that wants to break from the Constitutional protections our nation - and THEIR sacred rights - was built on.

I'm no scholarly historical genius, FAR from it but I do understand the role of compromise and good will in our political structure.  When a single group, no matter its size, within the body politic decides to attempt to impose its will rather than seeking a way to meet in the middle, democratic government becomes impossible.  We all know what intransigence brings and it helps no one.

The multinational media corporations are responsible for fomenting unrest and I'm concerned that there is no way to discipline them or to constrain them in such efforts.  I sincerely believe that the media have become propagandists and they are working to weaken western nations by sowing division and animosity.

From what I've read, better then a Johnson win, is the Corbyn loss. Good riddance to Comrade Corbyn.

Popped up in my news feed. Thoughts on this?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-result-boris-johnson-pro-brexit-referendum-voters-conservatives-a9245866.html

Quote

More than half of voters backed pro-referendum parties at the polls despite Boris Johnson’s decisive general election victory.

Analysis of election vote share reveals nearly 52 per cent supported parties in favour of a Final Say vote such as Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Greens and the SNP, compared with 47 per cent who supported Brexit-backing parties, such as the Tories and the DUP.

A good example of clutching at straws. According to remainers 52% does not represent a win even if the figure was accurate, which its not. ;)

I did some math on my own, and even adding up all the other party votes, excluding Tory, Ukip, and DUP.

The total number is still about 400-500k short of the amount of people who voted for brexit in the referendum, due to the higher turnout of voters.

Its a different ball game, and it matter not.

Referendum. Brexiteers won.

We switch to another method.

General Election. Brexiteers won.

We arrive at both outcomes because its the will of the people or Brexiteers know and understand the rules of the game.

That's not true.

More people voted for parties that are against Brexit.

Ironically, it was 52% to 48%!

Oh really ? How interesting :) Lets see what has happened in Parliament ?

Oh gosh... pro-Brexit parties have 365 seats (minimum)

everyone else added together.... 285.

Gosh.. that's a win for the pro-Brexit party; a majority of about 80 seats. Whoulda Thunkit :P

Mind you, I take your point about the irony of the two numbers :)

I thought this might happen and did put on record on here, after this election some people will count all the losing parties together and claim more people voted for none-Brexit parties. firstly your counting Labour as a remain party. even though

Like i said, different ball games Referendums and General Elections. explain this to me, Referendum Brexit won. General Election the only party that was committed to leaving the EU without further votes or referenda Won. Not true you said, but its happened. so understand how that happened.

Referendum Vote Leave Won. (PR system)

European Elections Brexit Party Won. (Leave won)  (PR system/D'Hondt system)

General Election. The Party who fought the election under the banner 'get Brexit done' Won. (Leave Won again) (first past the post)

Remainers can pick the game, the rules differ but the out come is always the same.

If Remainers want a victory they'll have to invent a new voting system. one which ultimately has the losers as winners. turning democracy on its head.

For those who appear perturbed by the above:

It's not a Remoaner thing. I heard it on the news and found the numbers amusing.

It's a similar thing to Trump losing the popular vote, but still winning the election.

I see to days word is patriot. if you say it a few more times you might, just might convince yourself. if no-one else.

You claim to be a patriot but your actions show otherwise.

Seeing as neither of you can define it, bottom line is, patriotism is putting country before self. Just because someone believes a different path is better for the country, does not stop them being a patriot.

But the two of you are far too cowardly to ever admit that, aren't you?

Much easier to just malign anyone who disagrees with you as treacherous and unpatriotic. Well I've already done and given more for my country than you probably ever will. So keep your pretty words, your baseless accusations and your empty claims to patriotism.

Using your own words ...... and the logic of your own words....

Low income and working class who voted conservative in this election to save their country
from the EU are Patriots - Not 'stupid'.... unless you think being Patriotic is stupid... but that's
not what you are arguing..

They put their country first...

And to suggest that taking a path that allows your country to be destroyed as an actual country
and split up into (overlapping) regions..... is putting your country first is not a clever or logical
argument to make...

You aren't the only one... the EU is moving stealthily towards the removal of countries as we know
it and having Regions instead... regions that overlap present borders....

And because those making all these decisions KNOW that the populations of the present countries
won't like the plans.... they are VERY quiet about them...

For example..... does Nicola Sturgeon realize that if Scotland became a member of the EU after
winning an Independence referendum and joining as a separate country....
at some point down the road - maybe not too far down the road ........................

Scotland would, in reality, cease to exist as a country at all....
