UK General Election -

Don't trust what the polls say , as they are often quite out of touch with what the public actually want .The only way your party has a chance is ,come snow , flood , fire or the pale horseman , is to get your self down to the polling station and put your " x" in the right place ,and don't spoil your vote by writing some stupid note on it. If polls are taking figures from a selected audience ,who are these faceless people , who can say one thing and then do the opposite . its ball-locks.

All parties are trying to outdo each other and are being lenient with the truth in doing so.

Bor J says they will build 40 new hospitals ….b.s.

jerm c says they will give NHS £26 billion over 5 years , while Bor J says £20 billion over 4 years .

jermc says he will give every household Broadband internet , and shares in B.T. immediately went through the floor .

They are both lying and hoping the public will fall for it .

Do they honestly think that the public are stupid and can't see through their lies.

This election is becoming a farce or a comedy pantomime .

What the 'ell was Bor J doing in a primary school in Taunton yesterday , when little kids don't know what an election is , while jerm c was off to Scotland promising all kinds of goodies ,which he can't deliver .

Corbyn on his broadband idea.

“What was once a luxury is now an essential utility,” the Labour leader told an audience at Lancaster University. “I think it’s too important to be left to the corporations.

so he plans to give broadband free to the masses.

But surely there are other more essential utilities, dare I say, - like water, electricity etc. surely if the concept of essential utility was key to the decision making then these should be offered Free or subsidized instead?

Sorry JC this one doesn't add up.

Hmm.. Broadband for the Masses.

But... what will happen to the existing suppliers ? BT, Virgin, TalkTalk etc ? Will they have to be compensated ?

And how - exactly - will Jeremy implement this ? How can you suddenly dig up all the roads to lay fiber optic cables ? It would take a decade or more to implement this. And in the background, 5G is rendering traditional broadband irrelevant ANYWAY.

You can see why Corbyn thinks it is such a good idea, who wouldn't want free internet?

Boris parked his tanks on the NHS/police/education lawn early and Labour need a new big selling point and this looks to be it.

Strange it was not left for the manifesto launch but polling numbers must be forcing campaign strategy?

His plan is to part-nationalise BT and have them give the whole country ultra fast broadband for free. In the meantime Virgin, TalkTalk, and all the other internet providers, are made redundant. Corbyn could part nationalise them too to just take over the existing customer base, or prevent them trading.

Either way their shareholders arent going to be happy, and the share price of BT has already plummeted.

I would imagine that their thousands of employees wouldn't be too happy with being made redundant either :P

Latest polling numbers -

Johnson’s Conservatives lead Labour by 10 -17 percentage points, four polls published on Saturday show.

"A YouGov poll showed support for the Conservatives stood at 45%, the highest level since 2017, compared with Labour on 28%, unchanged."

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-election-savantacomres-poll/pm-johnsons-conservatives-have-highest-support-since-2017-polls-idUKKBN1XQ0OC

Conservative Party has a 16-point lead over the opposition Labour Party, according to an opinion poll published by Opinium Research on Saturday.

Conservatives stood at 44%, up 3% compared with last week, compared with Labour’s 28%, down 1%.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-election-opinium-poll/johnson-has-16-point-lead-over-labour-before-election-opinium-poll-idUKKBN1XQ0OZ

These polls were probably conducted before the Labour Party free internet pledge. It will be interesting to see if that makes a difference in their polling numbers.

All the candidates standing in the general election on 12 December are now listed on the BBC News website.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2019-50459517

well in my constituency (Redditch) it's a straight fight between Con and Lab - Green and Lib Dems are
also standing - and that's it... but they don't do very well here...

So although I wasn't intending to vote for one of the two main parties again I'm going to have to and go with the
Consevatives... because it's all about Brexit -

Rachel McLean (Redditch Con.) is not a remainer and has been flexible with her voting in support of Leaving
ie. she didn't vote against the principle of a No Deal / Clean Break Brexit in one of the voting rounds a few months
ago and made a comment to the effect that she wasn't going against No Deal to reflect how her constituents
voted in the referendum... ie.. 62.2% Leave...

What happens after Brexit? Does anyone think that far ahead or are they so fanatical about Brexit that nothing else matters? After Brext everything will automatically just look after itself because after BrexitTM, the natural order of things will be restored?

The thing is....this election was called to try to break the Parliamentry deadlock about Brexit and is
essentially the Referendum Mark 2... until ''''it'''' gets sorted out regular politics are secondary...

but all the parties are still promising this that and the other... so it's still GE as usual as well for those
who want to try and ignore Brexit...........

it's not about being fanatical it's about unfinished business....

and another thing....

if Corbyn hadn't had all the Blairites on his back wanting him to go for remaining or a 2nd referendum
or staying in the custom's union / single market...and if he had gone for a Clean Break Brexit he would
probably be in Number 10 now.... or packing his bags to move there on the 13th December...

Clean Break Brexit - CBB! So the BBC has actually been subliminally broadcasting pro-Brexit messages to our children all this time?E very time they look at CBeebies, they've been sublimally receiving messages encouraging them to agitate for a clean break brexit! Well, whoever would have thought it! :o

The guy has spent his life out on the political fringes due to some pretty wacko policies.

He is strong (I will give him that) because he has kept going despite a lot of grief from his MPs. But his policies will not do Britain any good. We need to keep our nuclear deterrent, we need a strong military to shape the world in our interests, and we need a dynamic innovative efficient and adaptable economy to maximise our wealth.

The idealists like him, but we dont live in an ideal world. We have a scarcity of resources, we have enemies whether they be terrorists or state players, and we are in competition with every other country in our globalised markets. His brand of politics and economics will not work in this day and age.

He is a dangerous fool.

Well you've changed your tune. You were pretty insistent that the EU elections couldn't be taken as public opinion on Brexit.

Mainly because most people didn't want a no deal exit.

You know he doesn't decide the policies of the Labour Party? The membership decide them.

Look at the policies over the personality. When the manifesto is released, let me know which actual policies you have a problem with.

Thats the problem.

Its not his MPs that support him, its the membership. The wacky looney far-light socialists who are too young to remember the 1970s. Have you heard the Labour Parties latest insanity? They want to delist corporations from the stock market who arent green enough.

Thank God Corbyn is in the process of alienating the centre. With policies like that its almost like he wants Boris to win a landslide majority lol.

I don't believe that's quite accurate ? Policy is decided at conference based on reports/recommendations from committees staffed by about 200 'worthies', who are selected by the Labour Party. In a similar vein, delegates are chosen to attend the conference. About 40% of the voting delegates are from just three trade unions. (Unite, GMB, Unison)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_Conference_(UK)#Conference_decisions

I'm sure policy is influenced by the general membership, but policy is not SET by the general membership.

The problem is that Labour voters support the Labour leader? Interesting perspective.

I haven't seen that policy. Do you have a link?

Valid point and thanks for the distinction.

The point is, it doesn't matter what you think of Corbyn's personal views. He doesn't make the policy.
