i can see why your Dad has chosen not to vote because of the 'stitch up' (except for in the referendum which
is threatening to confirm his views on voting)...... but I still think we should vote if only to signal to the
'Powers That Be' that we are still interested in being involved in our own destiny...

My Dad always voted and always voted Labour because he was from a generation that benefited from
Labour being in power... ie he worked on the 'Presses' in a factory in the town where we lived that looked
after it's employees....( you could hear the boom boom of the presses for miles around on a still night..)
they had good wages, good health care (under the circumstances) and I can still remember the Children's
Parties me and my brother went to at Christmas where every child (hundreds of them or so it seemed)
had a christmas present - proper good party food and games... and there were other events for the
workers and their families... like a Summer Fair and what not...

Mirrors my own childhood, my dad worked at Landrover, but even stranger i did my apprenticeship on power presses, hammers etc, i was also a shop steward and card carrying member of the labour party in the days before it had contempt for the white working class, being a shop steward i also saw the corruption in the union close up, brown envelopes being passed etc, (i'll write something about it one day) Bee does the company name 'Garringtons' now long gone mean anything? an housing estate now stands on the site.

Socialism doesnt create wealth, it takes it away from those who do and gives it to low income households.

I personally think socialism should be scrapped and a new way forward found. I think we should turn the nation into a private organisation and when people are born give them a share in it. At the end of the year divvy out the national dividend to each person.

It would encourage everyone to work together properly to get the best possible dividend for all.

What's the famous Mick Jagger quote : 'If you're not a socialist by the time you are in your 20s you haven't got a heart, & if you're not a capitalist by the time you're in your 40s you haven't got a brain. So true.

Or it also means that when you're in your 20s, your brain hasn't fully developed. :tu:

Or alternatively, under socialism, filling your pockets with other people's money. :tsu:

Absolutely. Socialism has been tried so many times all with the same conclusion. The trouble is it all sounds so good to start with that’s why mainly young people fall for it. They are to young to have seen it before. explains a lot why Labour and the SNP target young people. 16 year olds.

Indeed, probably explains why young people think its better to stay in the EU.

You couldn't be more true.

Targeting our youth in Colleges and Universities, getting their claws in, selling the idealistic dream of the utopian future where everyone has everything, then when a little bit older the truth hits.

1. Scarcity of Resources.

2. Human beings arent robots.

3. Human beings arent equals.

We have to use our limited resources as efficiently as possible (bye-bye the inefficient Central Office for Budgetary Planning and Control and welcome capitalism).

We have to motivate human beings to get them to work so that means a wage appropriate to their societal contribution along with rewards, recognition, status, power, and giving them the room to live up to their full potential.

We have to accept people come in all shapes and sizes as well as all skills and abilities. An engineer at a nuclear power plant is far more important than a stamp licker. Due to the scarcity of resources and need to motivate the population, it is not appropriate to take away a large chunk of the engineers salary and give it to the stamp licker so they can enjoy nicer things.

I am the arch nemesis of those red Corbynites.

Does socialism work? A classroom experiment.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich; a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A grade.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the third test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, all failed and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

It could not be any simpler than that.

Font size is due to what it was when i copied it, Eldorado keeps making random posts about BJ and Conservative MP's, i think the one you're referring to was about something that happened 10 years ago so i made a random reply about Corbyn , it wasn't hard to find something he'd done, it had become a bit of a joke, one-upmanship, i didn't know it needed to be run by you first, i'll keep it in mind.

Oh what a surprise...... the BBC summary for the latest on the Parties campaigns yesterday -
didn't include a single mention of the Brexit Party -

It's as if the 17.4 million people who voted to leave the EU don't exist... they have become Non People

But there's a big picture of Boris visiting a crisp factory in Northern Ireland...

The BBC and the MSM are doing their best to ignore the Brexit Party - but the BP are campaigning
here and there just like all the other Parties -

If they put a foot wrong I'm sure they will get a mention though...

you have to make an effort to get any real news about them... ie the Brexit Party Twitter Account

Well you start losing brain cells from 22 so....

Maybe rather than starting voting at 18,we should end it at 50?

Its going to be hard for the Brexit party, didn't UKIP under Farage get 4% of the vote in 2015 and got zero MP's the SNP got 3% and ended up with 50 odd MPs.

The Brexit party will get roughly 6% of the vote with no MP's to show for it, but coming second in many areas. (12 or so)

Just think to achieve Brexit we've had to have a General Election. bonkers. we now live in a country were those elected deny democracy and now we have to sack them because they forgot the principle that they are there to serve the very same people who elected them. 410 constituencies voted leave. 240 to Remain. we have a parliament out of step with the people.

break it down between Labour and Tory alone.

  • Lab: 148 Leave | 84 Remain
  • Con: 247 Leave | 80 Remain
  • Leave should be represented by 395 MP's
  • Remain should be represented by 164 MP's

including all parties and constituencies Leave should be representation by 410 MP's | 240 Remain.

As of the 5th November all MP's are sacked, what an apt date for such a shower, and now they appeal for their jobs back. 71 of them are not standing for re-election. good riddance to the likes of Ken Clarke, Dominic Grieve, Philip Hammond, Nicky Morgan, Vince the Cable, Speaker Jon Bercow, Sir Oliver Letwin.
