The Art of Compromise

Just guessing here:  your health insurance doesn't cover much and you are relatively young.  Your expenses will go up as you get older, as you need more-extensive coverage and as life deals you some harsh blows.  I'm also guessing that your employer may be picking up a sizable portion of your insurance premiums.

Add up ALL your health care expenses from last year and see where you stand (Ask your insurance company - they'll send you the list.).

Admittedly, my expenses may be a little higher than average because I am paying health-care costs for a permanently-disabled child and will be as long as we both live (or until a decent health-care system gets put in place).  Also, I am 71 and my wife is 70 (not the cheapest health-care category).

Doug

Reasonable guess.

I'm 25, my insurance actually covers alot. But my job is also unionized, so there is that.

I don't contribute but if I did I suppose I would have to add the cost of Union dues on top of my monthly premium for a more accurate cost. (With the assumption they get some credit for that, which may or may not be true).

Would add it to 287 monthly (if I added the union dues onto the premium cost).

That’s too bad Doug, sorry to hear of those circumstances. I’m guessing you and your child are already receiving Medicaid and Medicare?  Do they seem adequate or fair?

No.  We are not receiving either.  She has applied for Social Security Disability several times and been denied.  If she had been declared incompetent, I could have put her on SSD without any questions asked.  But I was trying to get her to the point where she could support herself.  She is 40 and still can't get a job.  So she lives on Food Stamps and stays with friends.  And I pay her medical bills.

I had a double hip replacement three years ago.  Medicare disallowed half of the $46,000 bill. (They didn't pay anything, just said the charges were excessive and therefore, void.).  The insurance company disallowed another $13,300 and paid $8700, leaving me with a $1000-bill.  That means the doctors/hospital/etc. did both operations for $9700.  They knew going in that that is what they would get.  So why did they pad the bill?  Looking for a gravy train?  Or maybe deducting the difference as "charitable contributions?"  In any other business that would be tax fraud.

Medical billing is a system designed to create mistakes.  I found a mistake on a doctor's bill and brought it to the doctor's attention.  He had his office people look over the bill and they found another one!  Estimates are that half of medical bills contain mistakes.  And those mistakes are nearly all in the medical establishment's favor.  So not only are your bills too high to begin with, they are even higher than that.  And that is another argument for Medicare-for-All.

I know... why not appoint a special prosecutor to undertake a root-and-branch investigation of the whole Russia thing ?

We could call it.. dunno... the Llemeur Enquiry ?

Oh.. wait......

Im not even claiming Orange Julius is guilty of anything just that it legitimately deserved looking into. Calling it a witch hunt is ludicrous.

Doug,  you and your wife are eligible for Medicare and since your daughter is disabled and can't work is eligible for Medicaid.  What state are you in?  I'm a licensed Life and Health insurance agent in the state of WA.  You are nearing the annual deadline for enrollment so you should attend to this ASAP

Oklahoma.

We are on a private insurance system available through my employment.  I'd like to hear more about Medicaid.

Medicaid is to assist low income individuals to pay for medical costs.  Mainly funded by the federal government but run at a state level so it's administration varies from state to state.  Enrollment started last Friday and I believe it ends December 15th.  It's pretty limited coverage but it's better than nothing and is free except for whatever paperwork hoops you have to jump through.

Well RavenHawk, in the spirit of your own post, I would give up all of the assault rifles and obsession with them in private possession for the elimination of mass shootings in schools and public places.

You don't get this compromise thing do you?

7800 per person per year...

So 650 a month ?

I pay 187 a month for my insurance. I don't see how I win here.

Even if I had a family I would be paying 250 a month.

Obivously that's not counting co pays and such. But I have trouble seeing it add up to a benefit to me.

Somebody pays for your insurance, and they don't do it out of the goodness of their heart.  The money does not come out of your pocket so you never see it, it gets tapped off before you get your share. You generate enough revenue for your employer and your union to make it worth their while to pay those benefits.  If it is another $6,000 dollars per year, that is figured in to how much the market is willing to pay you.

I worked for a company that was very open about this.  I had to generate 2.5 times my yearly salary to remain employed.  The company got enough revenue to pay me, another 50% for taxes and insurance, and as profit the match of my salary.  If I did a good job and earned $100k a year, that was not a hardship for the company to pay me, they stuck another $100k in their pockets,

@Doug  Your daughter should be eligible for medicaid on her own.  It does depend on the state.  In New Mexico she would qualify.  There should be an Oklahoma state website that links to the medicaid application page.  I had it when I was unemployed taking care of my dying mother in 2014.

I would agree if they were investigating just how foreign powers were involved in our election outcomes but it’s clear the main focus was on trump all based on the assertion made by the people who actually involved foreign interference and walked away barely examined which was the Clinton campaign. Trump was right it was a witch hunt the goal of which was to undermine and ultimately topple his administration. Deny it.

"Russia if you are listening, the American people would appreciate seeing Trump's missing tax records."   I don't remember that is how it went down or Hillary saying that at a campaign rally.

The Mueller probe was targeted specifically at investigating Trump campaign communication and possible aid from Russia.

The IG probe,  which was about Clinton and Comey was finished last year.  Apparently it did not provide satisfactory dirt.

Now the administration has got the Durham probe going in hopes of finding more.  Kind of a Mueller 2.0  with Barr getting to travel to glamorous foreign capitals and ask our allies for aid in another investigation.

An independent investigator to dig into both sides is an excellent idea.  Might be hard to find somebody impartial, but that might be the basis of good trade.  You Brits send a team to the US with no ties to either party and we will send one to the UK.  Both our peoples benefit and both of our governments get cleaned up.

Which didn't happen and was brought on by a report solicited by the clinton campaign from a (supposedly) former foreign intelligence agent.

I think the only thing that will clean our government up will be very large changes concerning campaign financing, insider trading when it comes to senators, term limits, and lobbying.

That 78 cent that everyone quotes is from a study that took all men and all women together and then compared the amount.

Regardless of job type, years of work, etc.

With more men being engineers and doctors and more women as teachers is obviously going to make men's total income as higher lol

Idk why everyone quotes that 78 cents. It literally a myth

That study can't be used to act like women are being paid less for the same job.

Yes it did  The email exchange Trump Jr. released, in chronological order . Email is communication. These emails (aka communication) specifically state that they are part of Russias efforts to help the trump campaign.

See arguing that the investigation was a witch hunt or unnecessary or took too long is a losing argument if youre trying to argue based on facts.

Youre doing a great job of making the emotional Trump victimhood argument though. All the feels.

And there would still be 30 to 40 thousand that get killed by firearms from all causes.  Don't you think that the 2 to 3 hundred that die in mass shootings are pale in comparison?  Trying to eliminate assault rifles is an irrational obsession.  It is the killer in a mass shooting that violates the 2nd Amendment, so why do you attack the 2nd and not the killer?  There is no compromising our Rights.  Yes, there are those that lose their lives in shootings but it is sick to exploit their deaths to severely restrict the Rights of hundreds of millions of others.  That is the slippery slope to tyranny.

Do you not understand the term investigation? Investigations happen to determine whether there is something to charge. After the investigation a determination is made as to guilt or not.

Now that we cleared that up you have to admit its pretty clear the whole thing needed to be investigated for national security. Or do you deny that?

No, you are right.  Should it take years and cause the nation to believe that the current administration is a foreign asset shaking confidence in our entire system just because the losing party can't accept the outcome of an election?  Maybe we should go undo everything Obama signed because he was born in Kenya :passifier:  That's the level I believe this bull is at.

So Trump giving classified info to the Russians while saying firing the person investigating their election interference had nothing to do with the nations confidence being shaken in the current administration? Or his saying he believed Russia over our own intelligence agencies? Or the public announcement that he had been lying to America about his business interests there?

The bolded really shows where you are on this. Youre doing nothing but repeating  GOP propaganda, again really proving my initial point. One side is currently aggressively defiant of reality in their pursuit of lifting up the dear leader. Truth doesnt matter just say the big lies often enough and enough people will believe them.

Im honestly surprised by your post. The conflating of law enforcement with political operatives really is a nakedly authoritarian move and youve taken the bait hook line and sinker.
