Donald Trump Is America's Anti-President | Opinion

The Founding Fathers' prescience is once again stunning

Quote

More than unpresidential, Trump represents the perfect exemplar of what Alexander Hamilton darkly envisioned when he described the danger that a demagogue might one day assume the presidency and require removal through the awesome power of impeachment. Such a demagogue, Hamilton prophesied, would be "a man unprincipled in private life[,] desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper...despotic in his ordinary demeanour." Such a man, Hamilton wrote, would one day "mount the hobby horse of popularity—to join in the cry of danger to liberty—to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion—to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day" with the object of "throw[ing] things into confusion that he may 'ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.'" Such a man, we should all be able to see now, is Donald J. Trump.

Why beg for a definition when you can search it for yourself?

Just cinch up your big-boy shorts and start researching.

Because the definition I find in no way supports ANY theory that trump is "draining the swamp". So I wanted to know what nonsense definition was being used to justify such a crazy statement.

More on today's witnesses:

Impeachment Hearings Resume With White House, State Department Witnesses

House Democrats are set to kick off week two of their open impeachment hearings on Tuesday with witnesses who listened firsthand when President Trump spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on July 25 — a key moment in the Ukraine affair. And members of Congress also said they've added a new witness to those slated to appear this week: David Holmes, the diplomatic aide posted to Ukraine who appeared for a closed-door deposition last week, now is scheduled to appear in an open hearing on Thursday morning.

Indeed. Except... of course.. Hamilton was NOT referring to impeachment. Indeed, he was referring to Aaron Burr, the vice president during Jeffersons presidency.

You must remember Aaron Burr ? The chap who destroyed america, and shattered the republic ?

No, neither can I.

The video is built on a false premise. The question should be why arent people who only watch foxnews moved. The rest of the nation getting honest reporting is actually pretty taken aback by the info revealed thus far.

If that were true then impeachment wouldn’t rate so low on priorities for early voters. They know it’s not going to happen.

We don’t need to drain the swamp. We need to form a third party called the guillotine party and fill the swamp with heads. NSA you know this is a joke so p*** off.

Much of the current hoo-hah surrounding Ukraine is really about whether US foreign policy is directed by the US president (as stipulated by the US Constitution), or by the unelected, career DC bureaucracy that has grown to such massive proportions.  Trump will win this argument because, like him or hate him, he's right.

The result of this will be a fairly dramatic display by the Executive that it is, in fact, the President who sets foreign policy...and no one else.

A sizable portion of 'the swamp' will slip down the drain as a result.

Here is Representative Eric Swalwell's biggest contribution so far to the impeachment inquiry imo. :tu:

Eric Swalwell, now the Dem's most notorious 'leaker', has become a leading spokesperson for the resistance against Donald Trump.  So what does he do?

Soils himself, live, on national television.

Does it really get any better than that?

Well another day of testimony in the books. Nothing really new today and I would call it a draw as both sides made excellent points. This is a bit off topic but thought some of you folks would get a chuckle out of it.

Obama aides allegedly left ‘You will fail’ notes for Trump White House staffers

President Obama’s aides taunted the incoming Trump administration in 2017 by leaving notes around the White House that said, “You will fail,” Trump’s press secretary said Tuesday. “We came into the White House, I’ll tell you something. Every office was filled with Obama books, and we had notes left behind that said, ‘You will fail,’ ‘You aren’t going to make it,’ ” White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham told a Norfolk, Va., radio station during an interview. Grisham told the Daily Mail that a particularly big note saying, “You will fail” was taped to a door of the press office.

The talking points are already coming out:

Impeachment witnesses suggest Hunter Biden’s Ukraine ties could be conflict of interest

A pair of White House officials testified during the House impeachment inquiry Tuesday that Hunter Biden’s sweetheart gig on the board of directors of a Ukrainian energy giant while his father was vice president appeared to be a conflict of interest. Under questioning from upstate New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik, Lt. Col. Alexander Vidman, a National Security Council official, and Theresa Williams, a foreign policy aid to Vice President Pence, agreed that the arrangement with Burisma Holdings — which paid the younger Biden up to $50,000 a month — didn’t look good.

GOP lawmakers spar with aide who called Trump's call 'improper'

Two national security aides who listened to a July 25 call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's president arrived Tuesday to testify on Capitol Hill in the Trump impeachment inquiry. Jennifer Williams, an aide to Vice President Mike Pence, and Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a National Security Council expert on Ukraine, both listened to the phone call Trump had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. Williams described the Trump call with Zelensky as "unusual" for its discussion of “a domestic political matter.” Vindman said Trump’s request of Zelensky sounded like a "demand."

More on the story:

Ted Cruz rips Eric Swalwell’s fartgate scandal with Steve Martin clip

Sen. Ted Cruz couldn’t resist ripping Rep. Eric Swalwell on Tuesday for appearing to fart on live television. The Texas lawmaker tweeted out the iconic Ruprecht dinner scene from the 1988 comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” showing Steve Martin’s character appearing to relieve himself at the table. “Leaked footage of Swalwell on MSNBC last night…,” Cruz wrote. Cruz was referring to the California Democrat’s appearance the night before on MSNBC’s “Hardball” during which he appeared to break wind halfway through his interview.

Interesting Poll

https://www.npr.org/2019/11/19/780540637/poll-americans-overwhelmingly-say-impeachment-hearings-wont-change-their-minds

Quote

But 65% of Americans say they can't imagine any information or circumstances during the impeachment inquiry where they might change their minds about their position on impeachment. And 30% say yes, it's possible.

The distribution was split basically identical among party lines as well.

Probably true.  Yet, it is good to get all of the statements out in the open for people to weigh.  As with Clinton, maybe it will only change a few minds, but at least they will have a chance to look at questions from both sides and witness testimony.,   YIsn't it likely that  if it sways half of that 30% undecided one way or the other it will affect the 2020 election

You have a point. about the president being in charge of setting foreign policy. Can't disagree that he has the power.

The impeachment hearings are not questioning  his right to set foreign policy, merely whether he is acting in the interest of the United States or using his office for personal gain.

I have to question your next point.  The Bureaucracy is not the swamp.  They are the machinery that turns the will of the president, or some other individuals in command  into action.  They don't set policy and they never have.

When you say I am going to pull troops out of Syria or send more to Saudi Arabia, it doesn't happen with the snap of the presidents fingers. When you say I want a wall built, somebody has to find the money get the contractors and get it done.

Those are not elected officials, those are bureaucrats that do a job. I don't want to elect a building contract administrator, I just want to hire someone that is capable.

The swamp is politicians, elected officials and the leeches that hang on to them.  The swamp did not get smaller, the biggest gator in the swamp just changed.
