Berkeley philosophy lecturer slammed after saying rural Americans made ‘bad life decisions’ & should be SHAMED

A Harvard-educated UC Berkeley philosophy lecturer is catching flak for bashing rural Americans as parasites on more “efficient” city-dwellers. He has since apologized for the tone of the original tweets, but not their substance.

Disdain for “flyover country” by the coastal elites is a trope of American politics and culture wars at this point, but Jackson Kernion apparently sought to embody it with a series of tweets this week, declaring that Americans living in the countryside should not be “subsidized by those who choose a more efficient way of life.”

“Rural healthcare should be expensive! And that expense should be borne by those who choose rural America!” Kernion argued in now-deleted posts. “Same goes for rural broadband. And gas taxes.”

It's a sad state of affairs when people have no idea where their food comes from. Maybe all of the avocado farmers should go on strike and hit them where it hurts.

It makes me wonder exactly how guys like that would treat their "lessers" if given the chance.  Not really...I know how they'd behave.  History is replete with animals who thought they were "more equal".

What's more efficient than living simply? Cities aren't environmentally efficient. Life can be more convenient for sure. I dunno. Is this the same professor that said people who join the military are the lowest of society making bad decisions or something to that effect?

Seems like all it takes is making sure you can use the right crayons. I really doubt anyone like that should be considered an "educator".

Skip college, go to trade school kids. You'll get a job oriented education with better chances of actual employment.

Actually there was something I saw the other day where some enviro mental expert* was explaining that everyone should live in cities and we should abandon the countryside to revert to Nature. I'm not sure how he envisaged that the teeming millions in the cities would be fed, I presume he was imagining some artificially produced food substitute, as these utopians invariably do.

It would depend on how such a mega city is constructed. If it's basically a self contained unit, perhaps rooftop gardens and small livestock, then maybe. But cramming that amount of people in such a space would invite untold chaos.

People in trades make good money without the years of college debt to worry about. They also do have much better chances of being employed quickly after graduation.

There's no way to grow enough food to sustain the population of a large city and if you did plant a garden, you'd never keep people out of it. Livestock would be worse.
