China threatens Sweden

The CPC up to it's usual methods to silence dissidents.

Sweden’s prime minister has rejected threats from China that Sweden will “suffer the consequences” for awarding a freedom of speech prize to the detained Chinese-born Swedish publisher Gui Minhai.

Gui was one of the five Hong Kong-based publishers and booksellers who disappeared in 2015 having printed books critical of the Chinese government. He reappeared in 2016 in custody, saying on Chinese state television that he had surrendered after fleeing a fatal drink-driving incident 11 years before. Released in 2017 but prevented from leaving China, Gui was seized by plainclothes police while travelling to Beijing with two Swedish diplomats in January 2018. Since being filmed making what supporters believe was a confession under duress, he has been imprisoned.

The Chinese ambassador said Gui is suspected of revealing state secrets and intelligence on China.

He argued that Gui is not an author and is instead a criminal who has “committed serious offences in both China and Sweden, and was a lie-fabricator who viciously attacked the Chinese Government.”

Saturday’s statement alludes to “countermeasures” against Sweden and warns: “Some people in Sweden shouldn’t expect to feel at ease after hurting the feelings of the Chinese people.”

The CPC is just going around the world flexing it's influence. Who do they think they are?

(Insert joke about the U.S here) lol.

But yeah it really is getting bad, there are about a dozen other threads I could make of how they are trying to overtly and subtly control those around them.

Especially their neighbor countries.

Companies trying to appease Chinese censorship laws is disturbing to me. Specifically Google.

Say what you want about American foreign influence but it's mostly apolitical. They aren't forcing religion or censorship on anyone. China on the other hand is a Communist state so business and Government share the same building. If you want to set up shop in mainland China, you better denounce Winnie the Pooh first.

Yes I agree.

I also do not believe U.S forgein policy is equivical to China's CPC.

For one, as citizens we can openly critique to death our governments policy and vote to change it to whatever we want. We can even run to be apart of our government.

In China you have no say over it and dissident thought is censored. The award recipient in OP is a perfect example of that.

The amount of blatant lies, smear campaigns, and gas lighting the CPC does is sick.

China has been doing that for ages, what with buying our iron, and giving us wind/solar, while they take our efficient coal, and build hundreds of coal fired power plants.

While we dummies tear ours down, in order to make no noticeable difference, and appease idiots!

Trump says that the Chinese made up Climate Change, and considering most developing countries are in recession, or ready to fall as Germany is, it has a grain of truth.

The ones in power cannot be reasoned with, no matter how good the evidence is, so all we have left is voting these fools out, and minimize the damage.

The poor continue to get disconnected, and die in their freezing homes, or at least til they have burned all of their books.

I would start with National Geographic, that gives off the best flames!

More importantly, have you noticed how petulant and childish the CPC seem?  They are nearly as bad as Trump's twitter feed.  You don't suppose they are using Trump's behavior as a measure for their own do you?

It's our own fault.  Never should have worked with them until they met certain human rights standards.

It was the forigen policy of "liberalism".

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism_(international_relations)

Basically the idea was that international trade would expose them to liberal idea and relations with the world would lead to liberalization of China and basically force them to place nice with other nations through being interconnected.

They always do that. Threatening is one of their policy. Culturally, they believe they are the center of the world.

Recently, China foreign affairs minister visited ROK, and threatened.

he strongly demands USA troop should be withdrawn from R.O.K.
