Benjamin Netanyahu indicted on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been indicted on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced Thursday. Netanyahu, who has denied any wrongdoing and said he is the victim of a politically orchestrated "witch hunt," faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of bribery and a maximum 3-year term for fraud and breach of trust, according to legal experts. In February, Mandelblit announced he was considering indicting Netanyahu on one count of bribery and three counts of fraud and breach of trust, in three different cases. The cases are known as Case 1000, Case 2000 and Case 4000.

He'll get away with it. Israel is well on its way to a dictatorship at this point.

That end would be too good for him though.

Interesting system they've cobbled together for themselves.  I hope justice is done but with everything that has happened over here, it isn't too hard to believe him.  The timing seems particularly suspect.  Oh well, they'll get the government they deserve.

Netanyahu trial: Israeli prime minister faces Jerusalem court

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in court for his trial on corruption charges, days after he began a new term in office.

The 70-year-old is the first standing leader to face trial in the country's history. He denies accusations of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Arriving at the Jerusalem courthouse, Mr Netanyahu said the cases were aimed at "toppling him in any way possible".

He was sworn back into office as head of a rare unity government a week ago.

The Israeli political scene is just as vicious but far less "refined" than the U.S.

We used to treat presidents with an almost God-like respect while they were in office, with rare exceptions.  The Israelis put them in prison after they leave office ;)

After the way people have disrespected the office because Trump won it, it will never be the same.  That's a PROMISE.

Vicious is not the word that comes to mind. More like institutionalised corruption. When the Israeli political landscape or any other country for that matter can only bring forth a couple of people to govern every generation then these's something wrong with their democracy. Im sure this will hit a raw nerve but what the hell, if Trump was the Israeli Prime Minister several things would happen. One, he'd be richer than Bezos. Two, he'd continuously be the leader of his party, even if he lost an election and Three he'd be in and out of jail in between elections. Wow what a nightmare.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in court in Jerusalem, as his corruption trial hears the opening arguments and the first witnesses.

Mr Netanyahu, 71, is accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in connection with three separate cases.

He formally pleaded not guilty to the charges at a hearing in February.
