Yep, you read that right. The poll, which surveyed 1,500 Americans, showed Republicans favoring Trump over Lincoln by 6 percentage points, 53 to 47. But the same poll gave us hope that not all Americans have lost their minds, with a total of 75 percent saying that Lincoln was indeed the better leader. Both Democrats and independents disagree with Republicans by a wide margin. From the Wiki: The 1860 Republican platform consisted of 17 declarations of principle, of which 10 dealt directly with the issues of free soil principles, slavery, the Fugitive Slave Act, and the preservation of the Union, while the remaining 7 dealing with other issues. Clauses 12 through 16 of the platform called for a protective tariff, enactment of the Homestead Act, freedom of immigration into the United States and full rights to all immigrant citizens, internal improvements, and the construction of a Pacific railroad" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1860_Republican_National_Convention 17 planks total- 10 about slavery which the South viewed as the federal government intruding on state's rights. 1 on a protective tariff (Increase taxes but Trump did the same thing) 1 on the Homestead Act- Free government land (160 acres) for homesteaders.
