Grim Reaper 6 Posted December 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) Please post you favourite songs here and please add what the song was written about. There are many sites that list that information, a good one is Song Facts. This gentle, reflective song reflects the place where it was written. To compose songs for the Led Zeppelin 4 album, Led Zeppelin retreated to a mansion in the English countryside called Headley Grange. The pastoral setting encouraged intimate acoustic songs like this one and "The Battle Of Evermore" - they also worked on "Stairway To Heaven" at Headley. Jimmy Page recalled writing it in a "late-night guitar twiddle" and recording it the next day outside on the grass using a mobile recording unit owned by The Rolling Stones. There is some earthquake imagery with the line, "The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake." When Jimmy Page and Andy Johns flew to Los Angeles to mix the album on February 9, 1971, the area was still feeling aftershocks from the Sylmar earthquake, which hit that morning near San Diego. Page got a little freaked out, and insisted on mixing "Going To California" last in case the song somehow conjured tremors. SHaYap Posted December 11, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2019 I'll skip the standard run of the mill lists and just dip into my Asian playlists... One of my favorite singer song writer from Taiwan who got banned and black listed by the government because he was too radical for the powers that be, he ended up in Hong Kong and China... Luo DaYu Quote [00.04:38] ~ Just a simple tune of being lost and disillusioned with the big city and bright neon lights and missing the simple life of country homes... ~
Scholar4Truth Posted December 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Phil states that he is not sure what the song is about. Some have stated it is about going through separation in a marriage or relationship. There is an urban legend that claims this written by Phil when he witnessed a drowning , and someone was close by enough to save them, but refused to do so. ant0n Posted December 29, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2019 "Tous Les Cris, Les S.O.S.", Daniel Balavoine, singer and songwriter (released in 1985) "All The Screams, The S.O.S." I consider the French lyrics artistically amazing. You can find below the French and the translated lyrics (which you can hopefully get through Youtube as well). Like a madman will throw into the sea Comme un fou va jeter à la mer Empty bottles and then hope Des bouteilles vides et puis espère That we can read through Qu'on pourra lire à travers S.O.S. written with air S.O.S. écrit avec de l'air To tell you that I feel lonely Pour te dire que je me sens seul I draw in empty ink Je dessine à l'encre vide A desert Un désert And i run Et je cours I hold on to life Je me raccroche à la vie I get drunk with the noise Je me saoule avec le bruit Bodies that surround me Des corps qui m'entourent Like vines knotted with braids Comme des lianes nouées de tresses Without understanding the distress Sans comprendre la détresse Words i send Des mots que j'envoie Difficult to call for help Difficile d'appeler au secours When so many dramas oppress us Quand tant de drames nous oppressent And the tears knotted with stress Et les larmes nouées de stress Smother a little more the cries of love Étouffent un peu plus les cris d'amour Of those who are weak De ceux qui sont dans la faiblesse And in a last hope Et dans un dernier espoir Go Disparaissent And i run Et je cours I hold on to life Je me raccroche à la vie I get drunk with the noise Je me saoule avec le bruit Bodies that surround me Des corps qui m'entourent Like vines knotted with braids Comme des lianes nouées de tresses Without understanding the distress Sans comprendre la détresse Words i send Des mots que j'envoie All the screams S.O.S. Tous les cris les S.O.S. Leave in the air Partent dans les airs In the water leave a trace Dans l'eau laissent une trace Whose scum makes beauty Dont les écumes font la beauté Caught in their glass vessel Pris dans leur vaisseau de verre The messages are struggling Les messages luttent But the waves bring them back Mais les vagues les ramènent In star stones on the rocks En pierres d'étoile sur les rochers And I picked up the pieces of glass Et j'ai ramassé les bouts de verre I glued all the pieces J'ai recollé tous les morceaux Everything was clear as water Tout était clair comme de l'eau Nothing can be done against the past Contre le passé y a rien à faire The heroes should be changed Il faudrait changer les héros In a world where the most beautiful Dans un monde où le plus beau Still to be done Reste à faire And i run Et je cours I hold on to life Je me raccroche à la vie I get drunk with the noise Je me saoule avec le bruit Bodies that surround me Des corps qui m'entourent Like vines knotted with braids Comme des lianes nouées de tresses Without understanding the distress Sans comprendre la détresse Words i send Des mots que j'envoie All the screams S.O.S. Tous les cris les S.O.S. Leave in the air Partent dans les airs In the water leave a trace Dans l'eau laissent une trace Whose scum makes beauty Dont les écumes font la beauté Caught in their glass vessel Pris dans leur vaisseau de verre The messages are struggling Les messages luttent But the waves bring them back Mais les vagues les ramènent In star stones on the rocks En pierres d'étoiles sur les rochers All the screams S.O.S. Tous les cris les S.O.S. ChrLzs Posted January 17, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Me, I like weird dramatic music. And drums. And ... more drums. So, what do you get if you cross a very odd little frenchman with a lot of creativity, an orchestra, an amazing array of drums and very talented drummers, a huge screen for the CGI creations he makes, and some rather unconventional music? (turn on the subwoofer, includes strobe effects) this: What is it about? I have no idea, and there's no lyrics anyway. But it is hypnotising, and I just love it (BTW, he's the guy who did the fairly recent hit "Run Boy Run").
