The Road to Brexit

Brussels have apparently forgotten how to set up a video conference. -

Brexit will not be blocked by the coronavirus pandemic and the UK will continue trade talks with the EU, Downing Street has announced.

A source to the EU said it has been “impossible” to hold talks via video link because no one can agree on the exact format.

The EU source said, “It has proved impossible to have video conference, but we are still trying to make a way to work.” :geek:

they want to drag it out.

or maybe the mighty powerful EU cant handle more than one crisis at a time. but then its the member states who are dealing with the Corona crisis. not the EU. or their negotiating team.

Very sensible decision to Leave such a organisation.

I would have used an irony emoji but there isn't one.  ;) :)

As we know Brussels do video conferencing all the time, if its in their interest, but anything to delay and extend the negotiations is their 'plan A' at the moment.

The border should have been closed to gimmigrants, Italian , Spanish and Chinese flights from the start.

EU want extension to the trade talks. but state the UK must be the one who asks for the extension to the transition. - with that not being likely there is speculation that the EU itself could request an extension of the transition. One theory was that it would be hard for the UK to refuse. to that end the UK's response is thus. "We will not ask to extend the transition. And, if the EU asks, we will say no. Extending the transition would simply prolong the negotiations, prolong business uncertainty, and delay the moment of control of our borders. It would also keep us bound by EU legislation at a point where we need economic and legislative flexibility to manage the UK response to the coronavirus pandemic"

Also, Italy abandoned by the EU, the EU issue an apology. i think the Italians, now know who their friends are.

Italians are close to demanding a referendum on the EU.

I`m all for Brexit, but we also dont know how long Corona Virus is going to be here. Should it still be here come the winter we might be better off agreeing an extension so long as there are no clauses in our agreements that mean we have to contribute towards any of its member states needing bailouts. If it is in there I think we should go for an immediate hard Brexit.

Brexit talks continue and the EU fail to understand we have left.

The EU accuse the UK of cherry picking. and then................

The EU wants to control areas of; State Aid, competition, state-owned enterprises, social and employment standards. environment standards. energy & climate change. relevant tax matters and other regulatory measures and practices. The European Union should have the possibility to apply autonomous measures.

The EU is in panic mode, complaining the UK wont do this, the UK wont do that. wont agree to this or that. They seem to forget Theresa May is no longer negotiating. They seem to forget British diplomats had 2 years in a crash course of how NOT to negotiate with the EU. (that's the best thing that come out of Theresa Mays negotiating)

From No 10.

EWX7SLRXQAAVQYD?format=jpg&name=900x900

The fact Coronavirus has happened makes the UK leaving on WTO even more likely. As the worst case scenario of Brexit on the economy was a drop of 0.53% of GDP  annually. or (8% over 15 years) To put that in perspective. CoronaVirus impact is 35% GDP in one hit. i doubt 0.53% would even register.

And its also clear after this Virus that more British state aid is going to be used to build the UK's manufacturing base, such a policy would break EU rules.

No EU mini embassy in Belfast.

The EU said the office was to help oversee the implementation of the Northern Ireland protocol after the end of the transition period.

Michael Gove has said the European Union does not need a “mini embassy" in Belfast after the Brexit transition period.

The Northern Ireland protocol is absolutely NON of the EU's business, or won't be in another 6 months or so.

This "mini-embassy" is a physical sign of the EU's desire to continue to interfere.

They can stuff the embassy up their bottoms !

I think they are trying to make the border an 'Issue' again. Brussels have not been doing that well on dictating terms with the FTA.

I dare say pro EU types in NI will have something to say about it. ;)

It's the default position of the EU when they don't get their own way. It's the border again. If their concerned by the border sign the FTA the UK offered. Border issue fixed for the EU.

Its the same with UK fishing grounds. the EU talk like they own the rights and they'll sort out how we can fish them.

I hope we leave with No deal. the EU don't deserve a trade deal with the UK.

"Arron Banks and Liz Bilney, the CEO of Leave.EU, follow in the footsteps of Darren Grimes by winning in the High Court against the Electoral Commission. Today the Electoral Commission agreed terms of settlement over the Electoral Commission’s announcement in November 2018 of its referral of Banks and Bilney to the National Crime Agency for further investigation."

UK warns it will not ‘subordinate’ its laws to EU.

The main areas of contention include the so-called level playing field, aspects on governance and continued access to British waters for European fishing boats.

A source close to the UK team said today that British negotiators “are never going to accept” the EU’s position on the level playing field and on continuing the Common Fisheries Policy. Asked what it would take for the UK to accept a deal, the source told reporters: “What we are wanting now is an EU understanding that we are not going to subordinate our laws to them in any areas.

It was suggested that after brexit the UK economy would look like a busted flush to foreign investors and Sterling would collapse and that was before covid arrived.

But apparently traders are very happy to buy into the UK's future. ;)

New UK 10-year bond draws record $100 billion in demand.

"Bond investors tried to buy a record 82.6 billion pounds ($101.70 billion) of a new 10-year British government bond offered to the market for the first time on Tuesday, far outstripping demand at any previous British debt sale. The volume of orders was double the previous record for a British debt syndication, and mirrors increased demand for gilts since the Bank of England announced in March that it was expanding its quantitative easing programme by a record 200 billion pounds. The syndication was the first time a 10-year gilt had been sold this way. Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Citi, HSBC, Lloyds Bank and RBC acted as joint bookrunners."

More good news the EU wants everyone to have a nice summer holiday, free travel across borders, hotels and resorts open to visitors, off course normal Covid rules, stay apart, separate travel, face masks, timed meal and pool times, sounds fun. Testing and local hospital beds available. of course its not some sort of altruistic reason, they need money spent and those hotels and people employed in Spain, Greece and Italy. A few EU countries, such as Spain, Italy the UK and the Baltic's, have recently imposed or plan to require a 14-day quarantine on travellers entering their territory. However, the commission warned member states that quarantine measure must follow the principles of "proportionality and non-discrimination". im glad to see that a virus will comply with EU directives.

funny how planes wouldn't fly after Brexit, now its please come, spend your money. many will stay away until next year, hopefully many longer than that.
