These academics, I'm convinced, hold a competition between themselves as to who can come up with the silliest thing-to-be-offended-about. I'm sure it's all an enormous private joke really. Anyway, surely Dr. Flack knows about GEEK PRIDE?

They need a flag.

Both racism and hate crime have lost all actually meaning. The first is a blanket accusation and a 'hate' crime has come to mean anything emotionally displeasing.

Hands down the most ridiculous comment you've ever made.

I like geeks and most of my friends were nerds. I thought that calling someone a "geek" is a compliment.

Only to people under 40.  I am over 60 and when I was growing up nerd was the term used and we felt proud of it, though we got a lot of flak from the jocks (as if they knew enough about anything to tease anyone for anything), geek was still a crazy carnival guy who bit the heads off of chickens and snakes.

I don't know but I consider myself a bit geeky and I don't bite the head off of any animal

Right, because the meaning of the word has changed.  I will never consider myself a geek because I am old and have a different definition for geek and monsoon (the redefinition of monsoon really irks me as it is based on ignorance of one weather forcaster, I sort of get the redefinition of geek, as it used to be uncool and weird to be smart and like science)

I think people (not all) take things way to serious.
