Each frame represents one hour. In addition, this visualization shows the moon's orbit position, sub-Earth and subsolar points, and distance from the Earth at true scale. Craters near the terminator are labeled, as are Apollo landing sites, maria, and other albedo features in sunlight. But the four lunar eclipses will be disappointing brushes through the fringe of Earth's shadow.. Up to seven eclipses of the Sun and Moon can take place in one year, though the last time that happened was 1982, and the fewest possible is four.
