UM-Bot Posted December 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2019 One young zoo visitor recently got quite a scare when a tiger came charging towards him behind a glass wall. https://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/news/333361/tigers-attack-on-boy-thwarted-by-glass-barrier 1
Drusella Posted December 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2019 Well, if we didn't have Zoo's things like this wouldn't happen. Animals belong in their natural habitat, not aquariums, zoo's or cages. How would you like to be a bird, stuck in a cage 1 foot wide and 2 feet tall for the rest of your life?

And if it was a safari where there is no glass, that kid would be in a world of hurt.
+DanL Posted December 29, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2019 If that tiger was in its natural habitat instead of a zoo it would now be hunted down and killed. Animals that attack humans get killed in the real world...
Seti42 Posted December 29, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2019 I have mixed feelings about zoos. On one hand, they are fun (when you're little) and a good teaching tool. They also can keep a threatened/endangered species alive. This all depends on the zoo having a high budget and quality management, marketing, science, and medical teams. Poachers, trophy hunters, and human caused environmental collapse are very real things, too. On the other hand, of course an animal is better off in its natural habitat. Low budget garbage zoos are far too common, as are horrific tales of abuse/neglect. Some animals literally cannot handle the stress of captivity either. It's torture and a slow death for many critters. I think the ideal solution involves real international effort to create nature preserves and punish poaching. Cultural change has to make BS folk remedies and trophies hated rather than highly marketable (Looking at you, China and Russia). Also, (thanks to technology) you don't need to literally see an animal in an enclosure to appreciate its beauty and learn about it. A zoo is a 19th century idea, and its time should be past.

In fact, we kill everything wantonly.
qxcontinuum Posted December 31, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Some tiger got mad for being kept in prison by idiots who pay to visit their stinky jail. He got all the rights. Stop paying zoo ppl. It's not cool!
