Mystery pneumonia virus (COVID-2019) in China

Here is a refreshing article I found from the expert on the virus, which he says is unlike SARS or MERS and is more akin to a severe cold. A vaccine may be available in about 18 months, and he expects it to die back in about 6 months. He explains why, somewhat, in this longish article

Around 380 Americans quarantined on the cruise ship Diamond Princess will be flown back to the US on Sunday. They will be taken to two US Air Force bases, one in California and one in Texas. They will then be quarantined for another 2 weeks. So far, 285 people from the cruise ship have tested positive for the coronavirus.

National Geographic describes the COVIS-19 illness - NatGeo  2-15-2020

Here’s what coronavirus does to the body.

From blood storms to honeycomb lungs, here’s an organ-by-organ look at how COVID-19 harms humans.

A leading epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong warned this week that COVID-19 could infect 60 percent of the globe if left unchecked.

Interesting terminology to use for a pandemic.  A "blood storm"?

........ I would advise that we begin an antibody sharing program, immediately, where survivors donate their blood, and people at high risk, are allowed to received immunity from the survivors, based upon blood type. I know we do this with other severe illnesses, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, because I had a close friend of my family, who had survived that illness, and who was a blood donor for his entire life. He saved many lives as a result of his close call with that particular disease.

I say we weaponize the survivors, and make them heroes, which I’m sure many would be glad to be. Even if this virus is only 2% fatal, it could provide a roadmap for the future, when a far higher fatality rate would require a stronger response. I will admit that I have no idea how much blood it would take to immunize a second person, but perhaps we can multiply those antibodies, in vitro, and use those.

China Seeks Plasma From Recovered Patients as Virus TreatmentTime 2-15-2019

China’s state-owned medical products maker is collecting plasma from the blood of people who have recovered from the novel coronavirus after discovering it helped critically ill patients.

______________
They’re saying that they started doing this 2-8-2020 ..... but of course weren’t advertising this, until now.

When, isn’t nearly as important as the fact that they’re doing the smart thing.

The best Valentines present ..... by far.

local community infection has also started in ROK

one old man who was caught Wuhan Corona virus, never gone to China or any other country.

He acted and lived normally as any other person before he went hospital , therefore there could  be numerous infected people in Seoul.

I haven't seen a US source yet, but according to the BBC, 40 of the 380 Americans who were evacuated today to the US from the cruise ship, Diamond Princess, have tested positive for the virus and will be treated in Japan. They had all been tested before being allowed to board the planes. The other 340 will go into isolation when they arrive in the States.

The evacuated Americans are now in the US. One plane landed in California. One just landed in Texas minutes ago per ABC News. Monday, Japan also raised the number of infected passengers on the Diamond Princess to 454. This article from Times was just updated about 10 minutes ago. The US has confirmed that 14 of the passengers on the planes are ill and were contained during the flights. I thought they were going to be kept in Japan also. There are 44 Americans known to still be in treatment in Japan.

https://time.com/5785034/americans-covid-19-japan-cruise-ship/

The U.S. embassy in Japan earlier said no symptomatic or infected passengers would be allowed to board. But the U.S. Departments of State and Health and Human Services later confirmed that 14 passengers with the virus were on the flights and placed in a “specialized containment area on the evacuation aircraft.”

The first U.S. chartered flight arrived at Travis Air Force Base in northern California early Monday. The second flight was expected to land at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Here's a good video. I'm happy for them because they did get off that ship. It's just one big petri dish. Some did stay behind. They will not be allowed to enter the US until at least March 4th.

After the Americans had been removed from the ship to the planes, the US got the report that 14 had tested positive for the virus. They were asymptomatic. The State Dept decided to allow them to be brought back in special containment areas on the planes.

Over a thousand passengers from the cruise ship Westerdam were released in Cambodia after the country allowed the ship to dock. An American woman from the ship has now been detected by thermal sensors in an airport in Malaysia.

None of the other passengers or crew members have reported any symptoms. Those who are already home will be contacted by their local health authorities.
