"They were once a hub of activity with hundreds of passengers excitedly jetting abroad on holiday or having tearful reunions at the arrivals gate.

"But a number of airports that were deserted long ago to make way for new terminals or as a result of war still stand today, and have become so-called ‘ghost airports’.

"With many in a state of decay, these are some of the eeriest abandoned terminals around the world."
