Jobcentre teams to be sent out on to streets

Jobcentre staff will be sent out on to the streets in teams to advise homeless people and rough sleepers on how to find housing and work and access benefits, the government has announced.

A £3m fund is being set up to pay for the outreach teams in the 2020-21 financial year. It will also be used to bolster projects that jobcentres are already involved in along with other organisations, such as the Salvation Army in Cardiff, Crisis in Edinburgh and Teardrops in St Helens, Merseyside, to support homeless people.

That should save them the drudgery of walking into a job centre and just asking, but if they can't do that they're unemployable.

We have an influx of 'homeless' people on our highstreet. Currently their 'community' they have created are not employable as they are drunk or drugged up or both by mid-day. 

They are getting money from somewhere, a lot from what they are stealing from the local shops. 

They are able to walk into the shops and steal, then they are capable of walking into the jobcentres.

I only have sympathy for the homeless who genuinely want help, they are the ones you see go to shelters and seek it.

There are some who can not get off the drink and drugs, unfortunately the lot we have on our high street have turned our high street into a ghetto. Shops have closed and I have just been told (happy bloody new year!) that our shop will be closing and not relocating on the high street because we have lost too much money in the break ins and  shop thefts. We had 5 breakins last year,  smashed windows (homeless drunks caught on camera fighting outside late at night and throwing bottles). Everyday they steal from the small local shops and many have already closed.

These people need to be forced off the street and 'helped' as they are costing hard working people their jobs and local people their high street.

Whens the penny going to drop. There are no staff, just district volunteers that can't do the job. There's been no staff since its conception in 1988

  a.  Assess individual problems.

  b.  Assign individuals to Camps based on their problems.  

2 Individual Camps

  a. Mentally Challenged

  b. Mentally ill

  c. Drug and alcohol abuse

  d. Physically handicapped

  e. Educationally challenged

Leaving people to be 'free' in their homeless situation is inhumane.  In a properly state run 'indoctrination camp'...the homeless would have their primary needs taken care of.  Shelter and Sustenance.  In addition, they could be helped along the path to recovery.  Eventually being graduated from the program and hopefully onto a better life. 

Not everyone will continue on to a better life...but perhaps many would and become productive citizens.  It benefits society by benefiting the individual and targeting their needs.

That's my solution.  Anyone else?

Putting the less able into camps. 

Can't believe no one has tried that before.

Agree, that's why I'm for the vagrancy act. The problem is that the constabulary can't do '3' they can only do '2'. As in its a common law offence to not have any money. If you can do 3 you understand that on behalf of that person an offence is being committed.
