US officials to ground drones over spy fears?

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

"US officials may put an end to a civilian drone programme because of their concerns about the unmanned aerial vehicles that are made in China. The officials are apparently worried that the Chinese-made drones could be used to spy on people in the US.

"After a volcano exploded in Hawaii in May 2018, US scientists used drones to save a man from the lava: "Follow the drone," they said. He made it through the jungle.

"Drones save people. They also map terrain, survey land and inspect pipelines. The scientists use drones for these and other purposes on a daily basis, and they have bragged about their successes in the field.

"Many of the aircraft are made by Chinese companies, though. They are now grounded because of concerns about espionage."

Anything with an electronic brain or senses could become a weapon, no matter where it’s made.

However, I wouldn’t trust the Chinese with anything that can connect to the Internet.

I do trust Apple, generally .... so hopefully the will start manufacturing drones.

Sounds very much like pruely and simply part of the propaganda war against China, perhaps the most idiotic conflict the United States has ever entered into, and that's saying a lot.

"Don't buy Chinese gadgets! They might be spying on you!" So what? Why are they gonna do, send information back to Beijing? Well, big deal. Why should the American public be concerned about that? Only if you're flying drones over secret government installations might there be any espionage concern, and I'm sure there's already measures in place to guard against that. Otherwise it's just completely pointless paranoia. I think the people should have rather more immediate concerns about what their own government might be doing rather than some shadowy far-away foreign Other.

Well, yes. But the idea is to do it as much as you can and give your rivals as little opportunity as possible.
