Eldorado Posted January 23, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2020 (edited) "Historians have made a 3D recreation of the elaborate headdress of a real-life Asterix-like resistance fighter whose burial site was discovered on a West Sussex building site. "The skeleton of the Iron Age mystery warrior and the unique glamorous bronze headdress buried with it have gone on display at the Novium Museum in Chichester for the first time. "The warrior is believed to have been a refugee French Gallic fighter who fled Julius Caesar’s legionnaires and was regarded as an important figure who was given a “lavish” burial in about 50BC." I mean if you look at the showy decorations of some Medieval knight's helmets, this does actually fit in quite nicely... 2
+OverSword Posted January 23, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2020 That is really impressive. If you were wearing that sitting on a big chair while people were dragged in front of you for judgement or reward or what have you there would have been no doubt who was in charge.
jaylemurph Posted January 26, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2020 It usually takes religion to get a hat that silly looking. —Jaylemurph 3
Unusual Tournament Posted January 26, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2020 Im impressed at the ancients code of honour in burying a warrior with such wealth when they could have used it more wisely or unwisely. BTW the helmet is ridiculous proving that even though the ancients had honour they had more importantly an excellent sense of humour.
quiXilver Posted January 26, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2020 Clearly never worn in battle... much like the mythical Viking's Horned Helmet ridiculousness. Who in their right mind would give an opponent something so readily grabbable, with which to twist one's head off?
Jon the frog Posted January 26, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2020 A real arrow catcher, but if you are the boss waiting behind the fight, you can bring it to show your status.

It’s completely ceremonial in nature, a symbol of status, wealth, and authority. Would never have been worn in battle. Like a judges gavel or the popes ring.
